to take food from the back of the supermarket shelves so it's fresher?

I may be eating it that day, but i still want to know it's the freshest available, rather than the stuff at the front which is more likely to be near its eat by date.

My husband does this he also takes cans from the back too and bottles but he is just weird

We all do it but I suppose really we aabu. I mean if you are using it that day and the food is safe it's certainly unnecessary. And if everyone does it I'm assuming eventually the oldest stuff gets left and goes to waste, meaning more wasted food and probably bumping up the prices.
