Hmm

Apparently its about disabled people playing tricks on people.

I dunno how they are getting away with that title, its disgusting.

Thoughts?

Oh yes, because it's all about enjoying being po faced. That's what we're about.

nods

threesocksmorgan · 18/08/2012 23:17

my dd has a good laugh. yet she never has to hurt someone else to do it,
perhaps you could take a leaf out of her book.\

threesocksmorgan · 18/08/2012 23:18

oh and don't use Ian Drury . doubt he would agree.

complexnumber · 18/08/2012 23:21

What would Ian have said?

He was a big man. Bigger than I could ever be. But I really don't think he would take offence at anything I have typed.

threesocksmorgan · 18/08/2012 23:25

doubt if he would have agreed with people taking the piss out of disabled people.
but I don't know really anymore than the reclaiming people who are saying they do.
would you all say it was alright if the name was sexist/rapist apologist/gingerist/racist or is it just ok to be disablist

Glitterknickaz · 18/08/2012 23:26

what three said

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 18/08/2012 23:34

My best friend said that if she used it first, they couldn't use it to hurt her and that it's a medical term, so she didn't get what was supposed to be offensive about it in the first place. As I say though, cultural differences, it's just habit with me because we spend every weekend together keeping each other company.

Sorry if other people are offended by the term, I am more offended by people who try to bully us for having a disability in the first place personally, but I can understand being protective of your children, as I am very protective of my DD and her behavioural issues and how people perceive that.

threesocksmorgan · 18/08/2012 23:35

but you can talk
you can throw it back,
spare a thought for all the people with CP who can't

BlinkersOn · 18/08/2012 23:36

Wow, that's offensive and very wrong.

...and before anyone asks, I do have a sense of humour etc..

threesocksmorgan · 18/08/2012 23:37
RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 18/08/2012 23:46

I guess it's hard for those who can't defend themselves. It's hard to know what to do, I don't think my friend is wrong for her feelings, but I don't think you are wrong for yours either.

I only know what it is like to be an adult and disabled, thus well able to defend myself to any person trying to use my disability as a way to bully me. We've always just used humour to get through things, laughing at ourselves first, not letting anyone use our problems against us. I never considered it from the point of view of someone who can't talk or their close family. :(

threesocksmorgan · 18/08/2012 23:49

maybe you should.
dd is ok, as I said her brother (and his mates) will deal with anyone who takes the piss out of her, but they shouldn't have to, sadly whilst people are gleefully reclaiming, they are hurting the most vulnerable.

CrikeyOHare · 18/08/2012 23:55

Maybe the makers of the programme are doing it for her, Threesock?

tazzle22 · 18/08/2012 23:56

so for those who think this programme is ok do you think two wrongs are gonna make a right then ????

Its never ok for anyone to speak in a derogatory/ discriminatory way about anyone with an apparent disability but now it will be ok ???? to prank and "catch out" and laugh at people who look able bodied.

Vile !

I hate prank shows anyway but this is just sooooo wrong !

and how can we expect "able bodied" to not use words that they overhear being used just because its by the "in" people only. ....... that is doing nothing to engender respect by, to or from "both sides" !

threesocksmorgan · 19/08/2012 00:04

CrikeyOHare did they ask her?
no thought not
the bets way to deal with crap like this is to stamp it out,
being disablist should be treated the same way racism is

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 19/08/2012 00:05

Well, I obviously am now threesocks, and we aren't really gleeful, as you put it, sadly we just try to remove as many of the verbal weapons the bullies have to protect ourselves more. In a way I guess it is sad, that we feel the need to take the piss out of ourselves and laugh, before anyone else can do it.

I am not sure how I feel now about using the term.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 19/08/2012 00:22

Maybe the people reclaiming the word are young and naive and think they are being ironic?
They may mix in arty circles and think its all utterly hilarious.
Not so much fun for the families having it shouted at them on a dily basis.

And isnt it just another excuse for others to use I?
How many times have I seen the 'well black people are allowed to say n....r so why can't I?'

Are we going to have the same stupid toss grown about re the S word?
well disabled people say it, so why can't I? It's not fair, it's political correctness gone mad that's what it is.,whine whinge blah feckin blah.

As pp said it s a very very small minority who se the n word. It certainly wouldn't be tolerated in my house or at family gatherings.

Fuck off with the professionally offended bollocks. That's just a way of saying 'shut up and don't ask me to consider my actions'

How about the professionally unoffended stop try ongoing to be so painfully outré ?

Softlysoftly · 19/08/2012 00:24

I don't get why people think this "reclaiming" will work? The older generation who are bigoted will just think "oh more pc liberal bollocks" and be disgusted about it over their morning oj and daily mail. The youngsters will be "huhuhuhu look at da funny spaccas".

The only ones benefiting are the makers who can pat each others arty farty backs and feel vindicated against the world leaving Jo public to suffer.

against is also an appropriate word, it's in joking and divisive disabled Vs abled. I would advocate a comedy show being a comedy show with people in it whether those people be white, black, disabled, abled or polka dot flipping blue!

Softlysoftly · 19/08/2012 00:26

X post Mrsdevere we clearly recognise arty pants bollox for what it is!

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 19/08/2012 00:32

The whole concept sounds fucking ridiculous.

YANBU btw.

sashh · 19/08/2012 04:43

Yes lets be outraged by a programme we havent watched thats not on yet

It was first on in 2005

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 19/08/2012 09:26

I'm not outraged by the programe I haven't seen
I think the title is crap.
I also think the whole pc gone made sort of accusations are ironic.
Because people with disabilities can do no wrong can they ?

BlinkersOn · 19/08/2012 09:58

I agree...

I'm not outraged by the programe I haven't seen however I am 100% sure that it will be crap
I think the title is crap. really, really crap and offensive

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/08/2012 10:02

I saw that in the tv guide yesterday and kind of double-backed to check again.

To be quite honest though, you can't really get up in arms with the schedulers when some disabled people THEMSELVES sign up to this kind of programme. Everybody has to take a little responsibility for their own judgement of the right thing to do. Not everything needs to be dissected to the nth degree when the enablers/perpetrators are themselves the subject of the programme.

That's what I think, anyway - I've known disabled people who refer to themselves as 'spastics'... what can you say? They own the word as much as anybody else in the same boat.

I think the right way to express annoyance is to firstly not watch the programme. Viewers are king...

threesocksmorgan · 19/08/2012 10:17

people can refer to themselves how they like, doesn't make it right though.
sadly some people don't give a shit how it affects others.
