It's his idea as I'm done in. 26 weeks pg and shattered. He can get a good deal with his job, and my protestations of "I'd rather spend a grand on a new carpet" was met with "you're a long time dead, cfc".

Why am I hesitating?

Has anyone been? I'm not a sun worshipper, celtic skin, more of a do-er.

I'm so gonna go! If they let me fly that is...

I went to sharm last year with dd. a friend recommended of after going with her dh. Now I consider myself fairly brave, have backpacked alone, etc, hitchhiker across Africa. I felt very intimidated in sharm, really didn't like it. The level of hassle towards a single female was untrue.

We ended up only leaving the hotel twice, once to go quad biking, once to the beach. All the plans I'd had of going to the markets, etc went out the window.

It was really hot, 40degrees in oct. Dd got a terrible tummy bug, un controllable liquid diarrhoea, lots of other people in the hotel had the same and it's common at all hotels.

Go to Barcelona!

Minshu · 17/08/2012 17:51

Having been many times, I wouldn't go back there unless diving for all the reasons mentioned above (except the heat, which I love). Hassle, groping, dodgy tummy even from good hotels.

Had a bit more of a think about this. If I were you I would go to Tuscany or anywhere in Italy, when I was pregnant I went to Viareggio (although have heard its gone a bit down hill since) and they treated me like I was a queen. People out and about couldn't do enough for me it was lovely. Plus it was hot but not too hot, you can walk around on your own without any worries, there's lots of yummy food for your pregnancy cravings and there's a beach and lovely hotels.

Go to Italy.

Yourefired · 17/08/2012 18:14

As others say Sharm will be so hot I would not enjoy pregnant, great for diving and snorkelling though. Suggest the kempinski hotel on Gozo. Very quiet, adults only pool, lovely spa and avedic centre, with a lot of residents on their own when we went as they just wanted a complete break. That said, again will be quite hot so Portugal, Spain and Italy may be better options. Further Gozo is small so any medical emergency would require a helicopter to Malta. Your DH sounds lovely.

RedHelenB · 17/08/2012 18:16

Just got back from Lake Garda - would def go there alone & pg.

MelanieSminge · 17/08/2012 18:16

I would go if I was not pregnant.

MelanieSminge · 17/08/2012 18:20

rubyfakenail's Italy suggestion is good.

LadyBeagleEyes · 17/08/2012 18:46

I was there this summer with ds17.
He learnt to dive, I hung around the pool and yes it was over 40 degrees.
I loved it, the Egyptian hotel staff were wonderful, the friendliest I've ever met anywhere.
BUT... it's not the place for a pregnant woman. It's too hot, you will be at risk of a tummy upset and though I would highly recommend it if you had older kids, I think you'd be better off somewhere a bit milder.
Oh, and though I got talking and friendly with a few people, their is a majority of Russians there, so if you're on your own, unless you can speak Russian, you won't find a lot of people to chat to.

Birdsgottafly · 17/08/2012 18:52

Our travel insurance is the best so I am not worried about being ill abroad

I love Sharm, but i snorkel, swim and ride camels etc, everything that you wouldn't be able to do.

I had to attend hospital once, in Cairo, a flight away, or hours traveling. It wasn't a nice experience.

I love the people, but it is to 'full on' if you are pregnant.

FermezLaBouche · 17/08/2012 18:52

How about somewhere in lovely, rural France. Brittany isn't too far away and there are some beautiful little towns:

God that's a massive link. How do people make a link into a single word?!

KittyFane1 · 17/08/2012 18:53

Go but not to Sharm! Why would you want to go there? So many much nicer places for a relaxing retreat.

Thank you so much. Showed DH this thread and he agreed, heat and illness and vaccinations all lend to us ruling Sharm out.

Tuscany and Barca look great. Will concentrate there as Cancun St Lucoa etc all require those vaccs.

Thank you again. DH was all "look on Trip Advisor cfc" but I said no way dud, the gang will know best! And you do.

Grin can I come please?!

aquashiv · 17/08/2012 21:43

Relaxing is not how I would feel in that place. There are a trillion other places if youwant a relaxing holiday. I am struggling to think off anything positive about the place.
