to find the term 'first world problem'

A bit annoying and ridiculous?

Sure, it may not be a universal problem, but does that mean it's only first world? By stating first world, it brings up that 'first' means best and this isn't a good connotation, either.

Why not use other terms? Or just state it's 'not a serious problem in the grand scheme of things'.

The phrasing just seems a bit... Eh. Makes me cringe when I hear it. Anyone else or AIBU?

I suppose it does depend on the area doesn't it?

I am sure we mustn't be with the current climate.

Wow, you learn something new every day, thanks Kladdkaka! I've stumbled along presuming it was somehow Old World (Europe), New World (Americas), Third World Blush.

But surely there must be 'first world problems', e.g. aging populations? Or is the term used in some other way that I've not come across?

Attention everyone, please go back and read teacherlikesappless post because she is right.

I think it's mostly used on MN by OP's who know they are worrying or being bothered by something silly.

...and yes, finding the term first world problem 'irritating or annoying' would be a classic example of a first world problem.

It annoys me too. It's as though it says "Count yourself lucky you're not a starving refugee: all other problems are trivial."

Not much comfort at all really.

Except I find it irritating and annoying and I live in Sweden, which makes it a third world problem too. Wink :o
