If anyone is good at fitting bras here would appreciate a hand!! - trips into town impossible at the moment due to newborn ds (I'm not breastfeeding by the way re bra sizes) ...

I used to be a 28F / FF .. During pregnancy I was fitted at bravissimo and was a 32G so I brought 3 non wired bras.. Ds is now 9 weeks (ok so ot newborn but still new!) And I need some new bras as I'm finding everything is either digging in underneath or underwired ones are digging in like mad where my arm pit is!

I ordered several from bravissimo in 30GG, 32G and a 30FF - all dig in :( surely I can't be that oddly shaped!? The 30gg was ok except for digging in under my arms.. I spoke to the customer care fit line and she says if its smooth over the cups (which it was) then it fits ok! But how can it when its painful under my arms?! The back fitted on the very first set of hooks so the fitter said to try a 28h but the other bras I ordered were a bit large in the cup if anything so I don't think that's right!! (But going to try)!

I'm fed up now, may just burn the bras and go bra less. Maybe im just less tolerant of things digging in now I'm busy with ds I don't know... I just can't bear wearing them anymore!!!

Am I the only one like this?? Or does everyone find bras as unreasonable and uncomfortable as me???

Aw spuddy I'm really sorry to hear of your traumas :( doesn't seem right you can't find something, I do feel your pain though!!

Interesting experiences everyone... I often wonder if bravissimo are obsessed with making women think they are a larger cup size than everywhere else - ie they always go down a backsize and up at least a cup size...

I do find the wires the most horrible bit, I always get red marks in the middle from a full cup but plunge aren't that supportive. I guess I just wonder if the red marks are part of having bigger boobage? Hmmmm.

I'm going to google hot milk now :)

The ahh bras look comfy but I guess I'm seeking the holy grail - something comfy and pretty!!! (Just can't please some people!)

Oh yes please jenner if you wouldn't mind.

I agree wiggle i want pretty/sexy undies as well as ones which actually fit and flatter. It appears if you are not a 'normal' size you don't deserve to be sexy! The thing is i actually like my figure (as does DP) it's not till i start trying to squeeze into ill fitting bras that i feel like shit.

JennerOSity · 16/08/2012 14:09

OK, she is away on honeymoon at mo so can't ask now. I am likely to forget by the time she gets back, so if you pm me in say 2 weeks I'll do that for you :)

Spuddybean · 16/08/2012 14:24

I'll try to remember, but as that is when my baby is due i may be a bit busy! ;)

JennerOSity · 16/08/2012 14:30

OK, well whenever you remember is fine, I'm not going anywhere. I am doing a dissertation and getting ready for baby too, so not going to promise my memory is any better! I'd text her now if she wasn't away. Wink

hugoagogo · 16/08/2012 17:22

spuddy have you been measured in M&S? Because they are notorious for using an outdated method for working out your size.

If I were you I would try a 38C and see how you get along with that. Get a £3 bra from asda or somewhere or try one on in the shop.

According to them I am a 40A Shock but I wear a 36E everywhere.

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 16/08/2012 18:38

sailorvie I have 2 anita bras from R and P And loathe them.
Only had them a couple of months, but am about to put them on Ebay.

I have been 34F with R and P for years but last time they said I was a 32 F.
I am not convinced. My Empreinte bras feel quite tight under the ribcage and are very uncomfortable by the end of the day.

charlottehere · 16/08/2012 18:42

YANBU. I am a 38F and love nothing more than freeing the melons of an evening and sometimes in day

Krumbum · 16/08/2012 18:43

Yanbu. If you have big boobs even the best bras are uncomfortable. It is very annoying!

brighthair · 16/08/2012 18:47

You might be in the right size but wrong brand
Panache dig in under my arms, but debenhams Gorgeous range are very comfy, and I find bravissimo own brand ok. Freya are comfy but the wire won't lie flat on my chest so I won't wear them
Trial and error

Naoko · 16/08/2012 18:51

Another vote for Debenhams Gorgeous range, I appear to be a decidedly awkward 30G (32FF according to Bravissimo which fits ok but 30G is better, depends a bit on design of bra too) and theirs are great. I usually buy mine off the clearance rack, if you're not picky about the design you can often get them for £6 or so.

PeppermintLatte · 16/08/2012 18:53

I'm so glad you've started this thread. You're not alone!

Marks & Spencer are crap IMO, they measured me a few weeks ago, i bought loads of their bras and they are a terrible fit, they really hurt.

I'm roughly about a 36G and the comfiest bra I have is one from JML, but I honestly don't think they can offer any support, they are called Belvia bras.

Any recommendations where I can go to be measured? Bravissimo sounds like they'll be uncomfortable from what posters are saying.

brighthair · 16/08/2012 18:55

I would be measured at Bravissimo but try loads of brands on personally and see which is best for you
Then you've got an idea of size and a range to try on

libelulle · 16/08/2012 18:59

If it's the wires digging in, you can lay them flat on a table and bend the ends of the wires up at either side. I've only just got the hang of underwire bras, having been fitted and bought a couple of lovely bras at rigby and peller (in their sale!!). Initially they were hellishly uncomfy, even though they clearly fit quite well, but having sorted the ends digging in thing, I love them!

LurkeyLurkerson · 16/08/2012 18:59

I think they can just sometimes be simply uncomfy, especially when breaking them in!

I got a new bra yesterday (36GG) I know it fits, the band looks right, the cups are smooth, my boobs are lifted and seperated nicely. But I was still pleased to take it off this evening!

I think sometimes it's a sacrifice for what looks on me like a pretty impressive feat of engineering! And once it's been through the wash a couple of times it'll become more comfy.

Spuddybean · 16/08/2012 19:06

Cheers hugo i have tried 36 & 38c's. John Lewis suggested that but the cups were too close together and ridiculously baggy and the back was way too tight. The fitters looked really perplexed. They called loads of colleagues in to look and 3 of them stood there looking at my norks shaking their heads and saying 'no'. I felt like a circus freak :(

I will need a bra made i think. My boobs are wide and spread across my chest further than any cup width i have found. If i get a b cup and stretch one cup around a boob it fits fine but then i can't get the other cup far enough over to the other boob without the first boob popping out iyswim.

hugoagogo · 16/08/2012 20:48

hmm, maybe you would be better with one of those 'ahh' type bras they're not that supportive, but you could wear two at the same time and because they do not have separate cups they might be the answer to the widely spaced boobies?
Something like this

Wigglewoo · 16/08/2012 20:55

Well after reading your replies I've ordered myself a selection of different styles and sizes to try on :) should be interesting!!

I also did a bit of googling and found out that panache underwires are cut very high on the sides and a lot of people tend to find they dig in so they say freya or bravissimo own brand are better...

But then I used to have a panache bra and it was ok!

I have some 28h's, some 32f's and a pluge style 30gg to try - I'm determined!!!

When I came back from the food shop today the first thing I did was release the boulders... Nothing as comfy as letting them run free :) but I do worry they will be down to my ankles at 60. Hmmm.

BigBoPeep · 16/08/2012 21:20

I feel your pain - bra shopping = nightmare.

I get a different answer every time I get measured, from 38b to 36E!!? I have been told I'm 'one of those ladies who isn't what she measures' Hmm I just have to go with trial and error. I find M&S are the only comfy bras, generally in a 34DD but not always, some styles just don't fit.

I've tried a JML type ahh bra and it was comfy for post birth engorgement just as something to hold the breastpads on, but it offered zilch in the way of support and I daren't wear it since. I don't like to go bra-less, except at night. Most of the time I wish I'd been born with a boyish, flat chested figure. It'd suit me and my lifestyle much better, and dp isn't a boobman so they're totally wasted anyway.

wantanewname · 16/08/2012 22:35

I have also always had a major problem with bras. I have been measured loads of times, bought loads of bras and found them uncomfortable after I have worn them once. I always measure at 36c but think I am actually 36b.

The only ones I find comfortable are the triumph ones without underwiring and the padded ones that are balcony shaped rather than padded on top. I don't know what I am doing wrong with underwiring but it always digs in and leaves marks under my breast or under my arms. I have found primark quite good though because they are so cheap it doesn't matter so much if I make a mistake.
