To be bloody annoyed at my folks.

Living with my folks at the moment. About a month ago my dog indicated there was a mouse living under the fridge. Dad says he's investigated and sorted it.
However today had a man come and sort some plumbing, had to get behind fridge, said mouse is still under fridge. Nothing had been done about it.
Mum said she saw it, run across the floor a few weeks ago but didn't say anything as didn't want to freak me out!!!!!!
So AIBU to think letting it stay in your house is wrong?!
It's fucking annoyed me as they are forever leaving food out! I go to bed a lot earlier than them and I get up and they've left cake out, or general food. Or food for the compost bin.
I'm fucking annoyed- its seriously unhygienic.
There is going to be a newborn here in six
Weeks are they stupid???
One mouse turns into several.
My dog only picked up on it once, he's not a typical ratter. He wouldn't kill.

sorry but I am getting a vision of the mutt standing there pointing, saying "mouse!"

Me too Squeaky. I envisaged Brian off Family Guy doing exactly that.

Salmotrutta · 16/08/2012 16:11

So you have a moose loose aboot the hoose? - as we say up here...

Grin

I second the wire wool (or a metal scouring pad) in the hole/gap they are getting through. A friend told me about this and apparently it's the only think they won't chew.

We once had one that sat watching us while we were reading in bed. It clearly wanted a story.

Salmotrutta · 16/08/2012 16:12

think?? - thing.

If you have one mouse you have mice, they do not live alone,

with regards to them living under fridges, you need to act, one of the main problems, that comes with mice, is their love of chewing wiring, which often leads to fires,

a mouse can squeeze through any hole you can poke a normal pencil in, so quite small,

there is no point in trying to eliminate them while there is any food supply, all food must be stored in containers, glass is the only rodent proof container so buy lots of kilner jars,

clean all the cupboards out, anything not in a container, chuck out, disinfect all the tins, containers, take the kick plates off the bottom of the fitted cupboards, find all the items that have fallen out of over filled draws, cupboards, brush out, you will be able to see from the dropping how bad your problem is,

go outside if you have air bricks(you do, unless you live in a cob house) get fine mesh covers for them, fit properly,

anywhere pipes go in or out seal the gaps with proper pointing,

If you grow foliage up your house, make sure it does not go up as far as the sofits, as rats and mice use plants as ladders enter at the top, and come down in the walls to food source.

make sure the kitchen and anywhere else people or pets eat is vacuumed last thing at night, take the rubbish out at night, don't leave pet food down, make sure pet food is stored in metal containers,

If you feed the birds, stop or at least have something to catch any dropped grain from feeders.

get killing sprung traps, set along edges of room, keep pets out or set in cardboard boxes, with a hole at each end for rodent entry,

bate with crunchy peanut butter, by far the best bate.

Oh and do it as a present to your folks as they don't seem to want to tackle it, so just do it as a thanks to your hosts.

and keep ALL food in containers, and make sure the floor is vacuumed.

good luck.

He made a little sign and stood by the fridge with it. It said 'there a mouse under my large white dinner bowl (fridge) and I'm concerned but mostly scared'!

wannabedomesticgoddess · 16/08/2012 16:22

You are lucky the dog hasnt done more than "indicate". We had a dog once that ripped up tiles and tried to chew through a door jam to get to mice at the other end of the house. Dog caused more damage than the mice ffs.

Pickles77 · 16/08/2012 16:29

Bloomin ek wanna, sounds messy!

Sort of salmo but he was holding a placard Grin

Pickles77 · 16/08/2012 17:31

It's Blush isn't it? He lets you know he knows where they are (he comes up the stables) but believe it or not I've witnessed mice walk right under his nose shouting eat me, and he's not opened a eye!! He's quite young too Blush
