Am I being unreasonable to want to get fit cheap!

I am currently trying to lose weight to help when we try to conceive and was approached in the street by someone asking me whether I wanted any nutritional services - I think theye were a nutritionist or something, saying they were doing meal planning services for £30.00 a week for weight loss and whether I would pay this! I mean is this a rip off? They also mentioned something a bout a family meal planning service for like £150 for 7 days!

Nope, the diet industry is worth billions.

angryfurball · 16/08/2012 10:13

Your gp can refer you to a dietician/nutritionist if you actually need one, and excersise is free. I don't understand why people spend so much on dieting.

squeakytoy · 16/08/2012 10:18

The diet industry is one of the biggest rip offs there is.

They dont want you to permanently lose weight. They want you to quickly lose some, so that you think their product is great, then you stop using it, put the weight back on, and go back to them.. and repeat.

It does not cost anything to look up healthy eating on the internet. The MyFitnessPal app is free and can be used on a computer, and gives excellent nutritional info.

You can get fit and healthy, and lose weight without spending anything extra to your food bill.

£150 to meal plan for 7 days? fuck me, where do i sign? What a right royal rip off!!

Seriously, just eat healthy food and exercise more

MrsKeithRichards · 16/08/2012 10:21

My fitness pal is your pal friend.

SoldeInvierno · 16/08/2012 10:21

I would be suspicious about anyone offering me anything in the street. If you want to join any established "dieting clubs", there are plenty of reputable ones around.

DoIgetastickerforthat · 16/08/2012 10:22

I would say the only thing you need to spend money on to lose weight is on some decent underware/footwear for when exercising. Every other aspect shouldn't cost a penny as info/support can be found for free on the internet or through your GP.

Hammy02 · 16/08/2012 10:27

You don't need to spend anything at all. Any organisation that suggests you do is ripping you off.

Buy the 30day shred dvd off amazon for £4.50?

lurkedtoolong · 16/08/2012 10:45

Have to agree with MrsKeith, I'm on yet another one of my never-ending diets and find My Fitness Pal invaluable. It allows you to monitor your own calorie intake. Eat sensibly and increase your exercise and good luck.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 16/08/2012 11:01

You can get fit on the cheap.

But that won't stop their being countless expensive ways to get fit or diet for those people who have more money than sense.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 16/08/2012 11:04

I'll plan your meals for £50 a week... good deal no?

mollymole · 16/08/2012 11:05

Of course you can get fit on the cheap. Take a brisk 30-45 minute walk everyday, eat less, pay attention to portion size, stop eating between meals, stop buying crap food, don't drink alcohol and cook fresh food from scratch and you will lose weight.

piprabbit · 16/08/2012 11:09

Free meal planning, health assessments, activity advice and more.

Don't spend any money until you've exhausted the free advice and services. The meal planning also produces the shopping lists you need for the meals.

Good luck with losing weight and TTC.

Ephiny · 16/08/2012 11:09

Eating less should cost less, do not let anyone con you into paying for it.

Yes your GP can refer you to an NHS dietician if you need expert advice (this is not the same a 'nutritionist' which is a fairly meaningless title that anyone can call themselves).
