no she doesn't sleep when out of normal structure either. I am going grey!:o

CockyPants · 15/08/2012 18:33

I am grey! Sad

CockyPants · 15/08/2012 18:34

Do you go to work for a rest?

Bunbaker · 15/08/2012 18:35

This is the first summer break that DD and I are really enjoying. She has had plenty of friends to play with and has had loads of homework which she does on the days that I am at work. She is immobile at the moment after having an accident on Monday, but hopefully she will be well enough for our holiday at the end of the month.

OwlLady · 15/08/2012 18:36

yes I go to work for a rest, how did you guess? on the weekend too.
summer is shit
and I loved the summer pre kids

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 15/08/2012 18:37

OwlLady you will so enjoy that first day when they are back at school, hang on to that thought :)

CockyPants · 15/08/2012 18:43

My mum thinks I am mean, wishing the time away. I think she remembers motherhood through rose tinted glasses.
Scary thing is DD is an only, and she is really well behaved compared to most of her friends. But I still feel driven to distraction. And guilty.

Vagaceratops · 15/08/2012 18:44

If it wasnt for the massive upset it would cause for me because its done in isolation, I would have agreed with Nottingham LA changing the summer holidays to 4 weeks.

SummerRain · 15/08/2012 18:45

Mine gave been off for 7.5 weeks already, 2 to go.

I wouldn't mind but I'm bogged down with course work, the weather is shit and we're broke. Doesn't make for many fun filled days out!

CockyPants · 15/08/2012 18:49

Things I would like to do sans interruption
Go to the loo.
Read a whole chapter of a book.
Do the sainsbugs shopping without having to negotiate what goes in the trolley.
Have a meal without me having to say sit still. Get on with it. You chose it you eat it. Etc.
And finish it while it's hot.
To watch grown up tv once in a while.
Sit in silence for 10 mins.

SummerRain You could always send your children to state school and then you would only have to put up with 6 weeks of holidays (tongue in cheek)Smile

DozyDuck · 15/08/2012 18:50

Aww owl lady I get no respite at all and he sleeps...never...

Summer holidays are starting to be slightly enjoyable now my body is getting used to the lack of sleep.

Should be shorter though. Even when I was a teacher I thought this due to the regression of the children during this length of time

makeminearose · 15/08/2012 18:58

Bunbaker [hmn] I'm in the republic of Ireland... All kids have 9 weeks holidays, over 3 months once they hit secondary, over here. They go to a village school across the road fron my house.

But if I was paying for private I'd be mighty pissed off if they were spending leas time in school than kids attending a free school so would probably be justified in ranting about that!

SummerRain · 15/08/2012 23:32

Sorry for appalling spelling... On phone

EndoplasmicReticulum · 15/08/2012 23:36

YABU.

(teacher!)

sizzlers · 15/08/2012 23:46

Oh i hear you op . I'm also in Dublin . ds has been on hols since May 30th
and dd has been off since June 28th.
I am more than ready for them to.go back to school now .

SummerRain · 16/08/2012 00:10

Even ds1, who hates school, has said several times he wishes the holidays were over. That says it all really!

Bunbaker · 16/08/2012 07:31

I didn't realise the holidays were so long in Ireland. What holidays do they get for Christmas, Easter and half terms?

sizzlers · 16/08/2012 08:25

Christmas would usually be 22nd Dec - 9th of Jan .
mid-term is 1 week but they get at least two or three mid term breaks
through out a school year.
Easter is normally 2-3 weeks .
At least they have lessoned the amount of "in service days"
to 1 a year.

RedHelenB · 16/08/2012 08:26

Ds would think you are. His little face when I told him hye still had weeks of holiday left was a picture!!

Hulababy · 16/08/2012 08:46

I can't believe we are more than half way already. It goes too quick as it is and we've not got everything done we want to as it is.

Def don't want shorter niw and longer in colder months.

SummerRain · 16/08/2012 10:14

It's a 138 day school year.

Generally they get a week at hallowe'en, about 3 weeks at christmas, 2days/a week in february, 2 weeks at easter and a few random days here and there like bank holidays and paddy's day.

alwaysinthebackground · 16/08/2012 10:43

Yanbu - mine have gone crazy this week wish i had endless amounts of energy
