To think Mel Sykes has lost the plot?

She's got engaged to the Twitter 26 year old now, after 3 months! Pretty sure I read that before he Twitter-chatted her up, he'd had a crack at a couple of other slebs.

She's got a quite seriously autistic son to care for and anyone would think (though I admit I have no experience of dealing with autism) that those circumstances would urge a slow introduction of a new step-father.

So has she lost it or AIBU?

YABU

Unless she's moved him into her house

If she has then YANBU

sugarice · 15/08/2012 16:14

I've just posted this in Chat Grin. I didn't know she had an autistic ds though.

threesocksmorganwinsgold · 15/08/2012 16:17

yabu
wtf has her ds hab=ving sn got to do with anything

Boondoggle · 15/08/2012 16:18

Worra engaged people do usually live together in these modern, Twittery times...

They do yes

But unless she's actually moving him in and prepared for him to become an immediate step dad, good luck to her.

She's not doing any different to what tons of other people do.

Mrs Cockings

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 15/08/2012 16:26

I don't know about any of this. But I do think she's lovely Grin

JustFabulous · 15/08/2012 16:29

I saw her interviewed where she didn't like it when she was asked about her behaviour on twitter after she complained about the attention. She said "that was on there and my private life is private" or similar. If she can't understand that the whole world can see what she has tweeted then she is stupider than she looks.

geegee888 · 15/08/2012 17:19

YANBU. Isn't she the one who had some dodgy night with multiple footballers in the past? In general, she seems a bit prone to quite dodgy behaviour.

She is in the public eye and put most of her recent "private life" on Twitter.

Also not keen on the way she shouts over her co-presenters so they can hardly get a word in.

She could be a bit more subtle about things and present a better public image.

thisisyesterday · 15/08/2012 17:26

well good luck to her is all i'll say!

it does seem crazy, but maybe is the one, in which case she should go for it and I really hope it all works out for them.

I am sure she is a far better judge than any of us as to whether or not her son can cope with a new step-parent, and will introduce the 2 of them in a way appropriate for him.

WorraLiberty · 15/08/2012 17:28

geegee what do you mean by 'dodgy' behaviour?

Was she married or something at the time?

verytellytubby · 15/08/2012 17:30

It's her business. I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole though but he's obviously the one for her Grin

geegee888 · 15/08/2012 17:32

By dodgy behaviour, I mean what I personally percieve as verging on sleazy behaviour.

clpsmum · 15/08/2012 17:35

Melanie is a lovely person and a fantastic mother. Seriously is there nothing better to do in life than slag someone off for falling in love???? Think it's disgusting that her son with autism should be brought into this.

Wowserz129 · 15/08/2012 17:36

I think she has lost the plot.

They guy she is engaged too had messaged loads of other celebs about setting up dates (Weird?) and she decided to take him up on his offer. I dont think celebs normally date random twitter fans?

Then she posts a bunch of horny messages and photos on twitter to him and now they are engaged.

Of course i do love a fairytale romance but Celeb or not I would urgh anyone to be cautious in those circumstances!!

clpsmum · 15/08/2012 17:37

And the stuff on twitter was banter. Was such a non story. How dare a woman talk about sex on a social networking site, they'll be letting us vote next

Wowserz129 · 15/08/2012 17:37

How does anyone know she is a lovely person and fantastic mother?? Unless you know her personally?

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 15/08/2012 17:38

Do you know the full story? (I know none of it). Poor girl, leave her alone.

clpsmum · 15/08/2012 17:41

I do know her personally she's a fantastic woman and extremely happy and I'm thrilled for them all, kids included xxxx

thekidsrule · 15/08/2012 18:07

YABU

really i cant see a problem, good luck to them, the odds seem stacked against most relationships these days so let them be happy while they can

whether her son has autism or has not the same consideration should be expected of any child in a parents relationship

saintlyjimjams · 15/08/2012 20:43

Depends on the child. My son with autism loves visitors and wouldn't understand the issues around a new person in his life so would find it easier than my NT sons who might be more worried about what it meant.

Good luck to her - she was very funny on alan carr.

owllover · 16/08/2012 12:50

Hmmmm she looks a bit pregnant on telly just now ......
