To wonder how kids can watch the same film so many times

It's raining and my DD is watching Madagascar for about the 100th time. This is closely followed by Mickeys Christmas which we have watched about 99 times!

I still do this an am late thirties. I love watching things over and over again. I normally have a film on when I go to sleep and can quite happily not change it for months.

Elf is probably one of my most watched films, when I was a kid I watched Grease endlessly. I've probably watched some of the DCs DVDs more than they have.

This is the one thing DH hates about me. But its so lovely, it really makes me happy.

KellyElly · 15/08/2012 18:06

I'm back after Mickeys christmas. Please shoot me now :)

As we're all admitting things Legally Blonde still cheers me up at 33 (hides)

Dh has banned me from watching any of the the x-men films in his presence, especially First Class. Oh and all of Buffy, Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes.

degutastic · 15/08/2012 19:07

My mother hid my copy of the Lion King on VHS for this reason when I was a child. I have also been known to watch and rewatch the same episode of crappy TV drama shows online over and over, fast forwarding the dull bits. As a teenager I watched the same episode of one show 13 times in one night, having taped it as it was shown Grin

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 15/08/2012 19:09

My brother used to watch the film Titanic on repeat. It was really, really annoying.

Needstotidyup · 15/08/2012 19:17

Be grateful, some kids don't sit still and watch films! Imagine having to entertain them for the 100 hours they've spent watching Madagascar!
And you getting your money's worth from DVD Smile

Molehillmountain · 15/08/2012 19:22

We didn't have a video when I was a child Sad and Envy but I was only allowed certain stories when we had a babysitter due to endless repetition issues. Low tech version.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/08/2012 19:53

My DD has taken a shine to Grown Ups (I haven't seen it all the way through, but Adam Sandler is in it Grin ).

10000000% preferable to Suite Life on Deck (fecking shoot me now ) the "Movie".

Or bloody Fred the Movie (one and two) - stabby stab stab

olibeansmummy · 15/08/2012 20:39

It's toy story for ds, but at least there's 3 of them!

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 15/08/2012 20:42

There is no limit to the number of times I could watch Friends. Or LOTR.

I'm with you on Mickey's Christmas, OP (never knew anyone else had this one). Ours may have slipped down the back of the DVD cabinet ....

heartmoonshadow · 15/08/2012 20:42

My little one is a big fan of Shrek 2 at the moment and will not be pacified or fobbed off with any others in the series. I was talking to my dad the other day and he said that he has never seen Grease all the way through despite the fact that my friends and I watched it a million times one summer holiday when we were young. I wonder it I will have that memory of Shrek 2 in the future!

LadyInThread · 15/08/2012 20:45

When DS2 was little, he watched the "Back To The Future" trilogy countless times.

I could have played the part of Mrs McFly, I knew it so well.

He is now 17 and revealed only a few weeks ago that he didn't really understand what was going on in the films. Grin

fuzzpig · 15/08/2012 20:47

I still do it as an adult (although mostly tv series rather than films)

I watched videos all the time as a child while my parents ignore me. Now I love showing my DCs all the same stuff I enjoyed (they have quite retro taste as a result!) and actually watching them as a family the first few times anyway - I do discourage them from watching the same stuff every day though. Or try to.

I am only on MN because DH has just bought (we actually have a monthly entertainment budget mostly due to our DVD habit!) the old cartoon series Dungeons and Dragons. Bless him :o

Cars2 here - endlessly!

MissMogwi · 15/08/2012 22:47

My eldest was obsessed with Sleeping Beauty then High School fucking Musical for years.
I thought that was bad enough but then DD2 made us watch Beethoven 1,2,3,4 and 5 about a billion times. (big thanks to grandma for buying them). Also Spacebuddies and Snowbuddies.

Thank Christ she's moved on to Friends and other things I like

Babylon1 · 15/08/2012 22:49

Erm Grease or Dirty Dancing anyone?? Millionth time of viewing Blush

TodaysAGoodDay · 15/08/2012 22:50

I made the mistake of buying DS 'Tangled' 3 weeks ago. He must have watched it 50 times at least! It's on repeat on the laptop, as soon as it's finished he says 'again Mummy, again'. I'm sure I don't remember watching things like that actually I do remember watching 'The Russians Are Coming' 4 times in one day as a teen...

mumof4sons · 15/08/2012 22:57

In our house it was always the Bionicle movie at tea time. I always used to serve the dinner at the same point in the movie. I can still repeat the lines after 10 years.

DS4 always had to watch Stuart Little when he got in from playgroup. I never tired of little Stuart.

NameChangeGalore · 15/08/2012 23:03

We watched Tangled for about a year. I know it word for word now. Even the songs. At the moment we're watching Peter Pan on YouTube 24/7.

fuzzpig · 15/08/2012 23:14

I got the Tangled sheet music so we can sing along to the songs :o

Peter Pan - my DCs love it, never really got into it as a child but found the video for 20p in a charity shop!

EcoLady · 15/08/2012 23:18

It's very useful on long car journeys to be able to recite film scripts as a family. Start with the variations on "Are we nearly there yet?" from either The Incredibles or Shrek 2 ...

AmberLeaf · 15/08/2012 23:26

Nonds knowingly at DozyDuck re autism. My youngest goes through phases of particular films until he knows the script off pat.

I did it too though and I can still remember the film word for word. It was a Disney one called 'that darn cat' and I loved it and still do!

AmberLeaf · 15/08/2012 23:27

Nods not nonds!
