I have just got a quote to hire a travel cot as we are going to stay with friends and taking the train. I want to hire the cot for two nights, the company can deliver it at 6.30pm tomorrow (a time they stipulated) and collected again at 9am on Friday. Surely this is a two day hire?

The company insist that it is a three day hire. Who IBU?

Hmmm, well as a cot is mainly ised overnight, as long as it is there for three nights then id be happy. it is a late delivery though, my dd goes to bed at 6.30 so od want it there well in advance of that.

Where is it you are going to?

OhTheConfusion · 14/08/2012 21:58

We are going to Edinburgh :) Gnocchi.

The minimum hire is 2 nights and we would only have it for 2 nights yet they are trying to charge us for 3 Hmm It is less than 48hrs.

Ment to add, our DD also goes to bed between 6.30 and 7!

How much are they charging? Never even heard of this before!

They are being very naughty charging three when your dd will only be in it for two nights.

Shame you arent coming to Newcastle you could have loaned mine for free.

Get some other quotes?

But YANBU though. If you end up arguing the toss with the first company you could point that if you arrive at a hotel on Wednesday and leave on Friday morning, you are charged for two nights.

zipzap · 14/08/2012 22:05

Guess they are conveniently using calendar days or any part thereof, whereas in terms of hours you are having having it for significantly less than 48 hours.

But yes, if they hire them out by the night rather than by the day then you are only having it for 2 nights. No way would a hotel charge you for 3 days for this timeframe, just 2 nights!

OhTheConfusion · 14/08/2012 22:07

They want £25 for the hire plus a £30 deposit. The £25 includes a delivery charge of £4.

I can't find another company in the area to hire one from so I am looking to buy one and leave it behind when we go home.

Thanks Gnocchi! x

Are there any little local b&bs or hotels near your destination who may loan one out for a deposit for you?

OhTheConfusion · 14/08/2012 22:09

I emailed 'Thank you for the quick response. However I can't see how a two night hire of less than 48hrs can be classed as three days' and have just recieved the following response... 'It is because we wouldn't be able to hire out the cot for 3 days, especially at the moment with the festival because we are so busy with deliveries that we wouldn't have time to clean the equipment straight away to hire out again therefore the charge is for the time the item is out of use'.

Blimey think my one only cost about £30 new!

BikeMedalsRunningMedals · 14/08/2012 22:15

Get a new one from Tesco for that!

GnocchiNineDoors · 14/08/2012 22:16

They wouldnt be getting my business.

somedayillbesaturdaynite · 14/08/2012 22:16

deffo get a new tesco/asda/argos one for that incl p&p delivered to your friends' house

somedayillbesaturdaynite · 14/08/2012 22:18

maybe a local mner would hire you one out for 20 quid of so Wink

bumperella · 14/08/2012 22:20

Just buy one. The fact that they're too disorganised to clean it between collecting at 9am and the next hire (at 6.30pm?) isn't your problem.

OhTheConfusion · 14/08/2012 22:26

They are not getting my business Angry

I have found one for £32 in Argos and reserved it online to be collected tomorrow. I am sure DD will be more than happy in it for 2 nights and friend has said she will put it in her loft :)

Have your friends not got friends who can lend you one? Or take it on the train?

OhTheConfusion · 14/08/2012 23:00

Friend does not know anyone with a travel cot, so this seems to be the best option.
