to think people should just not buy pushchairs if they are going to try to sell them on a couple of months later?

I keep seeing in local childrens items for sale groups on fb and the like people trying to sell prams/buggies and often they say things like 'barely used' 'only 2 months old' etc - I just don't get it - why would you bother buying a buggy, especially if it comes with car seat/pram/cosy toes/rain cover etc etc etc if you're only going to use it for a few weeks then flog it for half the price? Are they all just stolen off the back of a lorry and trying to be flogged quickly or do people genuinely spend a few hundred on things like that that they then decide they don't want? I'm genuinely confused. If it were just one or two ads I could maybe think they perhaps had an uncooperative DC who suddenly refused pushchairs or they came into money worries but I see them all the time Hmm .

I think it's great - it would be wasteful if they were taking them to the tip, but they're not, they get some money back to go towards the latest model/one that suits them better, and somebody else gets a discount on something they really need.

More fool you then for struggling on with something you hate. There are no prizes for making yourself miserable. Fortunately most people have more sense and get rid of things that don't suit them.

Its because when you get pregnant everyone goes pram crazy for some reason. And everyone and their dog tells you about the importance of keeping the newborn lying flat to protect their teeny tiny growing spine. And you live on a cobbled street so your Mum says you must get one of those ones with the big wheels so that the baby isn't bumped around too much.

And after exhaustive research you shell out a ton on a Quinny travel system. Only to discover the stupid baby did not attend the briefing and will not sleep lying flat, and really likes being bumped around on cobblestones. So after a few weeks of trying and failing to make the baby get with the programme you sling the whole thing in the loft and make do with a sling and then back it up with a secondhand Maclaren you pick up for a fiver in a charity shop.

The stupid thing is still up there mouldering waiting for DC2 who will no doubt hate it for different reasons. It would have been much more sensible to sell it.

Does that make you feel any better?

Maybe I've just been lucky then - we bought our pram/buggy/travel system second hand and I've had no major problems with it at all. Have used it multiple times a day for a year and a half and still going strong.

Yes what HAPPENED to all the pram huns who were here about 5 years ago?

They were great. Nutters, but great.

If you don't like it then ignore. If its got nothing to do with you then ignore. If other people want to waste their none then so be it. I don't get what the big issue is.

HecateHarshPants · 14/08/2012 18:41

they shouldn't?

it's up to them. Surely unless they're asking you to pay, it shouldn't bother you what other people spend their money on?

I don't get the whole pram/pushchair thing either, fwiw, mine just had theirs until they fell apart Grin but I don't care what other people spend their money on. It sounds like it actually annoys you and that baffles me far more than people changing their pushchairs every few weeks.

usualsuspect · 14/08/2012 18:43

I loved the pram huns, but I hid the pushchair topic so maybe they are still in there?

PeazlyPops · 14/08/2012 18:44

Pre-DS, I thought it was odd too, afterall, surely a pushchair is just a pushchair?

DS is 4 months old, and i'm awaiting delivery of my 3rd pushchair. I didn't know what I needed in a pushchair until i'd started actually using it. I thought I didn't need to be able to attach the carseat (turns out I did) so bought a second one. I didn't think I needed one-piece fold (I do), so bought a third!

Pascha · 14/08/2012 18:49

I now have 3 buggies, one of which i'm selling, one I've bought second hand due to pregnancy hormones and the irrational want need for a second seat and which i'm considering a rental as I will sell it for what I paid and one which is the bees knees and I will keep until my children are too big.

I too thought I would buy the perfect pushchair (which I did) and use it til I didn't need one but I got sucked in Hmm...

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 14/08/2012 18:53

They don't hun so much now I don't think! The pushchair topic still very helpful though.

OP - does it not occur to you that if other people didn't sell their old pushchairs you wouldn't have been able to get one in good condition second hand?

dixiechick1975 · 14/08/2012 18:55

Maybe Mum buys the pram/MIL the cot type of thing.

It might not be quite what you wanted or simply unused. Alot of people seem to have those travel systems with the car seat on then quickly swap to a maclaren buggy type.

Or are pregnant again so buy a phil and teds.

Grin to the hun comments - they all do hun don't they. I accidentally broke the rules of these things as someone had commented on something 'where are you xxxxxxxxxxxxxx' (or something of that nature) but the photo details said she the item was and the person hadn't said she wanted it, so I put a comment about I would have it and my goodness the comments I got back it seems I made a hideous mistake to dare take an interest in something someone else had made a non committal comment to. I have learnt my lesson now Wink

te but my pushchair was sold by someone whose son had outgrown it (a colleague) whereas these are from people who have LOs still using pushchairs, and not necessarily newborns either.

I guess my conclusion may be there are more pram junkies out there than I thought!
