She is sat cross legged therefore taking up two seats with a teenage scoel on her face, arms crossed. I think she thinks she is tough. I glanced around myself as one does when looking for a seat afyer checking in at reception in the hsirdressers. She said to her Mum look at tharlt fat cow. I know she was talking aboit me as I am the only big person in here.

I want to be the one to trach her a lesson. But I am the grown up.

I feel a bit shit that thete is so much fatism.

AIBU to feel smug tjat she is obviously unhappy. Lol

I am not surprised you are tempted to say something - I am big, and would be fuming too.

If I was her mum she would be getting a massive flea in her ear right now! Why would a parent let a child think that that sort of behaviour is acceptable?

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 14/08/2012 12:10

I would have squashed her personally. Did you sit down on the free seat next to her?

FallenCaryatid · 14/08/2012 12:12

Do you need the seat she's taken? I'd only ask her to move if I did, otherwise what's the point?
Yes, there is a lot of fattism around, from every quarter, her mother obviously agrees otherwise she's have said something to reprimand her DD.
Engaging her won't teach her a lesson, it will just give her the chance to have a stroppy argument, but if you feel like one too, go ahead. Smile

SoleSource · 14/08/2012 12:14

I would have eaten her for breakfadt when I was a teenager. Supercuts is obviously beneath her. Forst visit too. I am having a Clare Baldung cut, not decided red or blond thougj.

There was a time, not that long ago, when a comment like that would have devastated me. I have a history of depression, going back to my teens, and struggle with my self image and self esteem - and since I have a very bad habit of assuming everyone is thinking things like that about me, I would have been so upset to hear someone actually say it. Tbh, even though I am doing much better at the moment (better enough to be leaving therapy after nearly 3 years), I am not sure I am secure enough yet to cope with that sort of nastiness from someone else.

I wish people realised how much damage they can do with just words. Sad

SoleSource · 14/08/2012 12:28

I would be as stupid as her if I said something. I let someone else do it in her futire but hoping she grpws out of it.

I would say something.

I don't understand not saying something, how do you expect her to learn or be taught a lesson if nobody actually bothers to do it?!

I would be an adult and say something about respect, grubby feet, a face like a smacked arse and that weight can be caused my lots of issues such as medication and she should really learn some manners ... Or some such

toobreathless · 14/08/2012 12:37

Say something.

Totally unacceptable.

You can diet (if you want too!) she will be stupid forever.

Fatism is as bad as Racism.

SoleSource · 14/08/2012 12:41

I am in the chair now. I think it may be too late

HoobleDooble · 14/08/2012 12:43

I'm fat, I would have sat on her and pretended it was an accident "So sorry, am so fat that it gets in the way and stops me seeing idiots!" Wink

FallenCaryatid · 14/08/2012 13:12

As I said, if you want an argument, go ahead.

'I would be an adult and say something about respect, grubby feet, a face like a smacked arse and that weight can be caused my lots of issues such as medication and she should really learn some manners ... Or some such'

And she'd say 'Fuck off you fat cow, why should I respect a hippo like you?'
Or some such...
Or sit there oinking and snorting for the next ten minutes.

NCForNow · 14/08/2012 13:15

I am not that fat but I bet I'm fatter than her and I also would have sat on her. Little cow.

You may be large but she's nasty. I would complain to the manager actually.

WorraLiberty · 14/08/2012 13:19

She's a teenager with a lot of growing up to do so hopefully she won't be written off as being stupid forever.

Who knows, she might end up fat herself in years to come.

WineGoggles · 14/08/2012 13:27

"Fatism is as bad as Racism."
Totally disagree. Being rude and a bully is bad but one can (generally) choose to be fat or not, yet race is not a choice.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 14/08/2012 13:31

Fatism is as bad as Racism.

Er, no it's not. Being overweight is not an inherent characteristic, your skin colour is. Most people can avoid being overweight. You can't do anything about your skin colour (unless you're Michael Jackson!).

toobreathless · 14/08/2012 13:39

Fatism IS as bad as racism in my opinion. I agree that people have some degree of control over their weight & none over their skin colour, age etc But it is still based on a physical attribute. Which is unacceptable & no I don't have a personal axe to grind here.

Worra that was clearly a rip off of Churchill's quote & meant to be tongue in cheek.

WorraLiberty · 14/08/2012 13:45

I got the Churchill thing, I just don't think it can be attributed to a child

Kayano · 14/08/2012 13:49

Yes she might have said something back but at least I have tried to stand up for myself and do something about it.

Unchallenged attitudes lead to the same shit again and again

SoleSource · 14/08/2012 19:37

Thanls for the replies. I opted for red and love it.
