To think that amazon are supposed to offer free refunds?

My DH has bought a coat from amazon that is too big. He has requested a refund but the seller says he has to send it back at his own cost? Is this right? Aren't they supposed to let you print off a freepost label so you can send it back for nothing? It's quite a heavy coat and will cost a fortune to return.

Has he actually bought the coat from amazon or from another seller who sells through amazon?

picnicbasketcase · 13/08/2012 17:24

Are there different rules for buying from Amazon themselves vs Amazon Marketplace / third party sellers maybe?

Denise34 · 13/08/2012 17:24

Another seller. So does that mean he has to pay for the return?

I thought that if it was through one of the private sellers then the normal Amazon rules don't apply, just the normal distance selling rules - which is YOU pay for sending it back.

Sirzy · 13/08/2012 17:25

I don't think that what amazon offer to people buying direct through them applies to their sellers.

If it had been faulty I would agree the seller should pay but if it's just not right for you then I wouldn't expect the seller to pay

Well that is shit. God knows how much it'll cost to return. It's a big winter coat with fur lining.

It's XL which is his normal size but it's HUGE, way bigger than you'd expect XL to be.

if it was not bought from amazon.co.uk but from a marketplace seller on amazon then the goods arent covered by the amazon returns policy

It's all in that link. You need to pay postage (both ways?) You are also strongly advised to send it back tracked and insured, otherwise you'll get nothing if it gets lost in the post.

Even if it was Amazon themselves and not their Marketplace, if you are returning because you don't want it rather than because it's faulty, you pay for the return, but they have to refund the postage charges you paid for them to send it to you in the first place. You're both out of pocket a bit.

cornybootseeker · 13/08/2012 18:18

yes you have to pay for returns unless the fault is with amazon.
