£400
we've been back from holiday 2 weeks
he said there was no problem and he would refund the deposit when he got the chance
It's obviously loose change to him, but it's a lot of money to me

I'm so annoyed, I've asked him twice

Details. More details.

FreeBirdsFlying · 13/08/2012 11:09

What sort of deposit is it? Is it for a flat or a car or sexual favours or school books? What is your circumstances with it?

£400 deposit for the holiday?

uselfullife · 13/08/2012 11:13

We rented his villa, we bid for it at charity auction
last minute he asked for deposit, which I understood

the day after we left, he said thank you for looking after the house, said he would transfer the deposit back in the next day or two.
He's obviously a very busy man, think he travels a lot, and this is obviously down on his to-do list
I don't want to pester him, I hate things like this

Do you think he'd be worried about pestering you if it was the other way round?

Pester away. He's being selfish and unthoughtful, which is probably why he is a millionaire.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/08/2012 11:21

All the really rich people I have ever known, bar one American, have been tight as a duck's arse. Pester away.

izzyizin · 13/08/2012 11:23

Unless it was clear at the time you bid for the stay in his villa that conditions such as a deposit applied, he should not have asked for any additional sum over and above what you paid at auction and certainly not at the last minute.

Did he ask for the deposit in writing and state that it would be refundable?

Do you know any of the charity auction organisers? Could you ask one of them to speak to him?

BertieBotts · 13/08/2012 11:23

Send him a hint saying you need the £400 back to pay a bill!

uselfullife · 13/08/2012 11:33

ok- panic over, he's just text and apologised for overlooking it.
I was a bit concerned cos he hadn't responded previously

izzy- I don't think he was being underhand, I think he was genuinely concerned about his private expensive items. artwork etc.

the deposit request came over email, and stated it would be refundable

I think he's genuinely busy, and you have to have that security thing to logon, and travelling.
Just a bit miffed that my measly £400 came bottom of his list!!
