To think my 6 year old won't be sharing my bed forever!

He will grow out of it soon, right?? Ds starts off in his own bed but sneaks in with us every night. Sometimes I put him back in his own bed, sometimes I don't bother cos he invariably comes back in.

Anyone else got this with a child this old? Our fault I know, but I keep thinking he will grow out of it eventually!

My ds2 is 10 and still regularly gets in to bed with me during the night or early morning. I like it because he isn't very cuddly during the day so it's nice to have a few while he is sleepy. I do sleep seperately to my DH though which I guess makes a difference because it would be too crowded otherwise. DS1 only stopped when he was about 10 and a half although occassionally if he has trouble sleeping he will come in and he is 12.

DN was still doing it at 12.5.

I found it a bit odd tbh.

DesperatelySeekingPomBears · 12/08/2012 22:02

DS is only 7mo, and will happily go down in his cot from 7.30pm and stay there without a murmur until 4am or so, at which point he is always awake and singing to me. So, as I refuse to get up at 4am, I bring him in with us for the last two hours and we have a cuddle and go back to sleep. I can't imagine it will bother me when he is 6, as long as he spends the bulk of the night in his own bed.

He's not going to do it when he's 16.

Don't sweat it.

a friend of mine from school was still getting in her parents bed at the age of 18 when she didnt feel well - couldnt believe it when she told me!

girliefriend · 12/08/2012 22:19

hmmm Hmm not sure tbh I have a 6yo and maybe I am a big meany but there is no way she would be crawling into my bed everynight Shock recently had a weeks holiday and had to share a bed with her, while the first couple of nights it was quite sweet by the end of the week I felt knackered!!

Am also a bit Shock at the poster who said they moved their ds bed into their room?? really??

Thankfully we have a super king size mummymacbeth.

I often find myself moving into one of the boys beds though. Dh doesn't even notice them TBH and I often find him literally fast asleep on 2 inches of bed.

Kleptronic · 12/08/2012 22:30

Mine's 8 and still wants to so I let him if I've not got work the next day as he tends to be a starfish and use my ribs for a pillow. My DM's a bit 'hmm' about it but I think that there'll come a time soon enough when he'll probably not want owt much to do with me so I treasure it really.

ArthurandGeorge · 12/08/2012 22:32

Dd and ds often come into our bed, I love it!

funnypeculiar · 12/08/2012 22:35

DD is 6 and still sneaks into bed with us - not consistently anymore, but she'll go for phases where she's in every night. We've never really bothered putting her back to be honest - she snuggles up and is mostly no bother. Her big brother never did, incidentally. Every now and then she bed hogs and I wish her back in her own bed, but mostly I love sleepy cuddles. If it suits you both, enjoy it for now, I'd say.

CouthyMow · 12/08/2012 22:40

All mine stopped sneaking in at around 7-ish. I found it was the transition to Junior school that did it. Then I had another baby. So still no bed to myself, as 18mo DS3 always creeps in at some point now. Hmm

I'm going to enjoy it while I can, as DS3 will be my last, and won't be so little forever!
