Yes, it's started already.

Pictures of convicted child sex offenders and nooses pasted alongside a photograph of a man who hasn't even been tried (recent events of the last week).

Apparently this is sufficient to justify a return to the death penalty.

All it makes me want to do is mock up similar using photos of people such as Christopher Jeffries, Colin Stagg... there are many wrongly accused people to choose from.

But actually I know it'll be pointless so I'm just going to have to hide them from my feeds aren't I? head desk

This is why my world is wonderfully free of facebook and twitter etc. It feels bloody brilliant to not have to come across this kind of shit.
Theres a little bit of it here f course, but can cope with that as the dimwits are most definitely in the minority, elsewhere they seem to rule the roost.

wasabipeanut · 12/08/2012 11:41

I always type a furious response but wimp out of sending it and then fume silently.

Mayve we should both rethink some of our "friends"

TheVermiciousKnid · 12/08/2012 11:41

YANBU. Hide or delete.

catgirl2012 · 12/08/2012 11:41

I just hide and de-friend

Along with all the grief tourist, light a candle, RIP Angel etc posters

I tend to lose a lot of FB friends when things like this happen

Fireandashes · 12/08/2012 11:43

I've seen the same and have hidden the posts because I can't face the inevitable ignorance and bile that would result from engaging with the people who comment on these posts.

Quite disappointed in the couple of FB friends who have "liked" the original photo in order for them to appear on my feed, tbh.

Glitterknickaz · 12/08/2012 11:44

Yeah same here, fireandashes.
People I really wouldn't have expected to have 'liked' at least three different pictures.

OP posts:
Dawndonna · 12/08/2012 12:19

I have taken those that have posted it off my list of friends, pointing out that a) I only hang out with animals of my own choosing, and certainly not those of the pack variety.
b) One wrong conviction is a murder. Let's face it, if we listened to the braying of the mob, the Guildford four and Birmingham Six would be long dead.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/08/2012 12:22

What catgirl said... and why, why, why repeat/repost the same old tripe on multiple sites? FB never bothers me because I'm seldom on it.

I think some people just live to moan and complain.

FYP · 12/08/2012 12:27

That picture came up in my feed, I was shocked at who had linked it - I looked at the comments to see what she had put..

'did I miss the trial?'

Grin which I thought was good, she had made the point without any histrionics or drama like the other commentators.

Mrsjay · 12/08/2012 12:40

I hide and dont 'like' these things I hate public grieving although very tragic I dont think facebook liking of this tragedy is respectful at all, and as for the A slow painful death etc I never comment on this because I dont believe in an 'eye for an eye '

AGlassHalfEmptyNoLonger · 12/08/2012 15:44

Glitterknickaz (and others) I have done just this, and have stuck it on my profile if you want to snaffle it (I can email if you want, or add you to my FB profile so you can grab it that way). It isnt a fantastic piece of mocking up - but it makes the point.

Dawndonna · 12/08/2012 15:53

Thanks. A Glass it's on my profile.

BartletForTeamGB · 12/08/2012 17:33

"This is why my world is wonderfully free of facebook and twitter etc."

The problem isn't Facebook or Twitter, but your friends. If any of my friends did this (and I really don't expect any to), then they would be defriended straightaway, both on FB but likely in RL as well as I realised I didn't really know what they were like.

I had a full on argument with the people on one of these pictures last night and was informed that I am a bleeding heat liberal and I'm sick because I support the murderers not the victims...

I then realised the picture had been posted by a group called 'our England' looked at the other stuff on their wall and deleted every comment I had made on the post because I didn't want to associate myself with racist arseeipes even if it was in disagreement.

Mrsjay · 12/08/2012 17:49

just because you dont 'like' a comment doesnt mean you are not saddened and shocked and sickened with what happened Sad

peanutMD · 12/08/2012 17:51

Yes but everlong the main picture going around is of hazell on one side, who according to our law is innocent until proven guilty, and Ian Huntley.

Now what exactly has this got to do with Huntley? All stuff like this does is incite hatred and bring back old wound for the people who were involved (in this case with Huntley) for no apparent reason. In extreme cases it could also set a guilty man free due to some sort of technicality of media and sharing of private details.

peanutMD · 12/08/2012 17:57

Agree MrsJay, it is like those awful click 'like' if you hate child abuse with a large picture of a child with a black eye, burst lip our simulator injury which was probably posted by some poor parent showing friends/family their Childs injury from playing too rough outside.

I actually got tools by a friend that she thought it was weird that I never clicked like on any of these given that I work with children and should support anti-abuse campaigns Hmm

AmberLeaf · 12/08/2012 18:05

People that 'like' these sort of things are usually a bit thick IME.

Denise34 · 12/08/2012 20:11

I have more respect for people that get upset about horrific crimes than those who always try to remain aloof and above it all.

Dawndonna · 12/08/2012 20:14

I'm sure we're all upset, Denise. It is indeed an horrific crime. However, nobody has been convicted yet.
This particular thing is also about bringing back hanging, which is in part what we are also objecting to. Figures have demonstrated time and again that the death sentence is not a deterrent, and I personally think that one mistake is another murder.

Denise34 · 12/08/2012 20:15

What we should bring back is life sentences where life means life. That is what we were promised would replace hanging when that was abolished.

Dawndonna · 12/08/2012 20:20

That is indeed a possibility and has in fact been used in one or two cases; Huntley and Hindley for example.
At least with a life sentence, if there has been a miscarriage of justice, the person concerned is still alive.
