About school uniform?

DD1 is off to Reception in September. The uniform list says a red jumper/cardigan with the school logo. The jumpers are £14 each and the cardis are £12 each and I really can't afford them with all the other things to get.

WIBBU to send her in a plain red jumper or cardigan ? Does it have to be the logoed one? I don't want her to get into trouble but I've even searched for second hand and can't find any yet have lots of plain red from nursery that still fit well.

I'd have a look at the school website or ask for a copy of the school accounts and see just how much they're making in profit from said uniform. That's what the higher prices are usually attributable to.

We should have uniform freecycling on mumsnet. I'm sure I'm not the only one with bags full of completely useless old-school-uniform under my bed (not to mention having just forked out over £200 for some of the new-school-uniform).

My school had patches with logo to sew on, could you see if they do that? If not then the red jumper has to be fine, if you can't afford then that's that, the school need to either offer help or allow it.
