Sorry but I'm so ticked off at the moment.

7:35 this morniing the doorbell rang, I was in bed asleep, not unreasonable at that hour on a Saturday morning. I was at the door within 30 seconds, I'm expecting a parcel and I really want it sooner rather than later. By the time I got there he was gone and there was a card shoved through the letter box. It must have taken him longer to write the card than it did for me to get downstairs.

If he had no intention of waiting and had already written the card why even bother ringing the doorbell, I could still be tucked up safe and warm in the arms of morpheus. Instead I'm awake, annoyed and there's no way I'm getting back to sleep now.

Off to compose a suitably acidic complaint whilst I'm still annoyed enough to put some effort into it!

Why didn't you go out and ask for it? Presumably he would have only been next door by that time? I often have to chase the postman down the street because he rarely knocks just stuffs a card through.

BlueGoddess · 11/08/2012 08:36

Why didn't you open the door and catch them? If it was only 30 seconds they couldn't have got that far!

Kayano · 11/08/2012 08:46
Hmm
Zalen · 11/08/2012 09:34

I did, I walked right down the path in my pyjamas and looked both ways up and down the street, there was no-one in sight. He had to have written the card, posted it then rang the bell and legged it!

I can't think why he would do that, what's the point?

Kladdkaka · 11/08/2012 09:51

I know why, because the same thing has happened to my MIL a few times (except she's like a flash of lightening and always manages to catch them). He probably didn't actually have the parcel on the van.

TheLazyGirlBlog · 11/08/2012 10:00

I've had that, they pre-write the card in case they don't get an answer. Its bloody annoying actually.

Mind you, I'm shocked that there is still a Postman doing a round at that time of day, our post doesn't get here any day of the week until at least 3pm.

Smellslikecatspee · 11/08/2012 10:03

He will have written all the cards out beforehand. Have caught one out with this. I work from home somedays, regular postie (who is fab) was on holidays. This guy must have assumed that we were out all day everyday.

Anyway was walking past the door as the card was pushed in, opened door and gave him the shock of his life. Said I'm here! Where's my package, he just gaped at me

And

Ran away. . . .

At least the last time the guy had to manners to lie.

Back to regular postie, he's fab!
Has written cards before to say I don't know if you've popped out, if so call me and I drop letter/package round on my way home.
No he's not a stalker, he does it for everyone, just a nice guy who cares.

And yes we have rung the main office to tell them how great he is, they were as intrested as when I rang to complain about cuntychops above.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 11/08/2012 10:07

Our lovely postie doesn't do this, but we used to live on the round of one who did. No use running to catch him, he'd admit he didn't have the parcel with him. Do complain, if enough people do they'll stop it.

silversun · 11/08/2012 21:36

i am a postie and always knock once, wait, knock again and then write out the card. it only takes a moment and i always have the parcel with me, don't know if this is a small town v's big city thing. (annoys me when people leave a note for the postMAN when they know they have a postlady!!)

lunar1 · 11/08/2012 22:05

Complain, the woman who used to deliver never even brought the parcel with her. I chased her down the road once with 4 week old DS2, She had left all the packages in the lock-box at the end of the road. I had to walk down to the end of the road with her to get the fucking thing. It is making my blood boil to think about it!

LadySybildeChocolate · 11/08/2012 22:08

Parcelforce knocked on my door at 7:10 last week. I didn't hear until the van started up. I went straight downstairs but they had drove off, leaving a card which said 07:15 Confused I had to wait until 3pm, walk to the local post office and collect a heavy set of draws which I then had to get home myself. I wasn't a happy Sybil!

If you were asleep he may well have knocked a couple of times before you properly awoke.

I don't believe in 30 seconds though he'd put the message through and totally vanished. Even Bolt would only get 300m...

VodkaKnockers · 12/08/2012 12:12

Our postie does this or sometimes doesn't even knock the door and sticks a card through.

I've put in at least 5 complaints to Royal Mail but the couldn't give a fuck.

WorraLiberty · 12/08/2012 12:17

I've had this happen before

We have an open plan house so I was sitting about 20ft from the front door, when a card came through saying 'Tried to deliver parcel' Angry

I shot straight out and caught a sheepish little man on the path who swears blind he knocked on the door....despite the fact no-one (not even the dog) heard it Hmm

EssexGurl · 12/08/2012 13:24

No! The DH of my administrator at work was a postman for a while. He told her awful stories about what happens to the post of people who make complaints. According to her, although the postie in question isn't told what house it is making the complaint, they typically are moved rounds and so can work out where the problem is. Then they tell the new postie and quite often mail goes "missing" or mis-posted for a while. She always told us not to complain!

NameChangeGalore · 12/08/2012 13:29

I was out on a Saturday morning but my dad and dh were home. The postman just shoved the card through the door without knocking. On Monday went to get my parcel and told the people that he hadn't knocked. Man went to find my parcel and said "he's done it again" to one of his colleagues.

I think this is more common than people think.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 12/08/2012 14:23

Our posties stopped knocking or bringing the parcel with them years ago now. We can be out the front on the drive and they will walk over, smile pleasantly, and hand us the ready written "sorry you were out" card letting us know we have to go and collect our parcel from the sorting office. The sorting office is only open in the mornings, and is very awkward to get to, and has no parking anywhere near. It is a right pisser. I think we're the only people in the world who like Yodel because they actually bring the parcels, and RM don't Confused

silversun · 12/08/2012 14:51

Our boss gives us hell if we don't take parcels we have room for in our bags.

Milliways · 12/08/2012 15:13

My DH works at home and Postie just put a card through this week without knocking. DS was home too and they were his festival tickets! They have hundreds to deliver round here (Reading) so don't try. Went to collect them next day, and they were "lost" but they re-delivered to us the day after that.
