To swear on a parenting site if I want?

I don't swear generally and not in front of my kids, unless I stub my toe etc and it generally comes out as b.... Booboo! (I start the word and think of an alternative quick!!)

However I have come over here after being on another parenting website (cough) where you aren't allowed to swear!

So look away now if you take offence at swearing!!

That's the hilarious thing, a lot of the words aren't even swear words, I wouldn't consider bitch to be a swear word, ok it's not a nice word but come on, it would even get asterisked if it was used in the correct format talking about a female dog!!

I never swear much but it is slowly slipping out on mums net I havnt got to the C word yet but i have used fuckity fuck a few times but my swear word of choice is arse , its so tame it is embarrassing

Its definitely down to personal choice, like most things. Some like to swear, some do it as and when appropriate, some do it to show off, and others prefer not to swear at all. Which is fine and dandy.

The fact that Mumsnet gives us that choice, rather than outright banning it, is the preferred option, surely?

Its not like the kids are going to read it after all.

As it is, I wouldn't be worried if my daughter used the word bitch, or crap. Minor words and there's a lot worse she could say. My OH is from an Irish family where swearing was normal (think Thelma's Gypsy Girls). It doesn't mean he swears lots.

Or does "the other site" cough think we all speak aloud as we type and thus has a "wont somebody think of the children" hysteria?

That's exactly it, it's about choice, I don't swear much but it's nice to know I can if I want to!

YANBU to swear on a site that allows swearing.

YABU to think you should be able to swear on all websites.

It's up to the people who run the site.
