She asked me what I wanted as a gift when DS was born. I suggested some clothes in a bigger size. So she got me a photo album. It's one of those super fiddly ones which requires sticky corners to put the photos in it. Not wanting to waste the gift, I've just spent hours putting the first batch of photos in there. Thus missing many precious moments with DS (just to please you all on that other thread).

I know, IABU, I am entitled and ungrateful etc.

Yes you are.

AbsolutelyNotHoneyDragon · 10/08/2012 17:17

I thought the sole purpose of Baby Albums were to end up in charity shops, along with baby's first year books?

PineappleBed · 10/08/2012 17:17

What other thread?

You could have just left it in a cupboard, given it to charity or regifted unless she's demanded to see it full.

JumpingThroughHoops · 10/08/2012 17:20

Aww thats sweet. In the digital age, it really only takes you to lose your phone, camera or get malware in your PC and all your precious memories cough are lost forever.

Child adore looking through albums of old photos.

I actually HATE it when people ask you what you would like and then get you something totally different.

Either don't ask and just get what you want to get (in which case the only acceptable response is "thank you very much" Grin ) or ask and then bloody get it!

You aren't being at ALL unreasonable to be Hmm about
hello dear, I'd love to get you something, what would you like?
oh that's really kind of you, actually I'd love some baby clothes in a size...

Here you go dear

I mean - what the big hairy bollocks is going on there? [baffled]

TheLazyGirlBlog · 10/08/2012 19:59

I kept my Bay's First Year Books. Both of them, and I filled them. Of course I was in the middle of two nervous breakdowns at the time.....

YANBU- what was the point of asking? I'd ask for receipts and blame the baby blues if I were you.

RuleBritannia · 10/08/2012 20:29

My mother asked what I'd like for my 21st birthday. I didn't know but knew what I didn't want so I told her I didn't want a watch. What did I get? Yes, a watch. I was so disappointed but couldn't show it.

I suspect that my parents had already bought it when they asked me what I would like.

leave the bastard...

flyoverthehill · 11/08/2012 12:36

so with guilty,

NameChangeGalore · 11/08/2012 12:40

That's rude IMO. Is she old and forgetful? Was it a good quality photo album? You know the good ones can cost upto £100.

Ecgwynn · 11/08/2012 13:33

It is good quality but the point of a gift is to give someone something thoughtful which suits them rather than throw money at buying something ostentatious/fiddly. She's 60 something so not particularly old.

noblegiraffe · 11/08/2012 13:50

I expect she thought it was thoughtful. A lovely book full of memories.

NameChangeGalore · 11/08/2012 13:53

Or she thought she would get you something that lasts a long time, and it will remind you of her in years to come.
