to feel I am the only one not going away this summer?

We (me and DH and DS) are not going anywhere this summer because it will result in more debt for us. We had a week off together when the schools closed and we stayed home - it was wonderful! Perfect weather, lovely day outings, no squabbling!

But, I really wish we could go away even just for the long weekend at the end of Aug but my car now needs work done on it.

Please tell me IABU and that I should be happy for what I have (even though a friend of mine is going to 3 different destinations this summer with her rich husband).

SIL has just asked if we want to stay with them later this summer - they live in a big house about 90 mins away on the coast. Really want to say yes but not sure either of us are up to it.

Back in January we shopped about for the cheapest holiday cottage near a seaside and couuntryside we could find. We are taking ourselves and one DD and dog and car. We are not spending anything extra than we would do at home. We will buy the same supermarket food and make the same dinners and our time will be taken up with coastal walks and more walks with sarnies and hopefully the beach. You can go on holiday cheaply if you budget early enough.

OP did you mention having a beach nearby? If so, you are probably already in an area many people visit for a holiday soit's not all badSmile.

We are not going anywhere (again) this year. But at least I only live a 20 minute walk away from a beautiful beach. That is one advantage of living in a seaside town.
The disadvantage is having to share it with holidaymakers who seem to forget that people live and work in our town, and treat it like some huge holiday park...they walk in the middle of the road and look surprised that there is vehicles using it! And they leave their litter, dirty nappies, etc lying around and..oh, they think it is funny to feed the seagulls -then get upset when the seagulls pinch their chips/icecream!! NEVER feed seagulls, please! We have to live with the aftermath when you've all gone home!

Sorry Blush...I don't know where that came from!

No-we didn´t go away.

Husband couldn´t get time off when the children were off.

TBH, we rarely go away in "Summer"-just have a few days out.

We prefer to go away Easter or October.

We're not going away this summer either.

I know I'm lucky, in that we usually do, but money's tighter this year, and in any case my DH is deployed away from home (military) for all of the holidays and it would feel odd to go away without him.

I'm a teacher, so have the whole six weeks off, which is fantastic, but we've had a couple of really flat days (esp with all the horrible wet weather) when cabin fever has set in, and everyone we know seemed to be away on holiday Sad. So I do understand how you feel.

Are ybu? Probably, as you're definitely not alone, but hey, sometimes it feels like that.

Were not going on holiday either, I've been saving tesco vouchers so that DP and I can have a couple of nights away but that will be fairly local as we can't afford the petrol to go to far and we are taking the DSC camping this weekend to the stables!

We will spend 3 nights sleeping in tents in the horses winter field, this has the added advantage that I will be saving petrol as I won't be driving to and from the stables.

Having a holiday with your children isn't actually a "holiday" to my mind. More same s**t different setting.

Ifyou are going mad in the same place grab a copy of the Lady magazine or place an ad and see who needs someone to look after their home or dog for a week. Different place (usually quite lovely) and you might even make some money.
