Nasty content!

My friend educates her 6 year old DS at home and is teaching him about the digestive system by feeding the 1 year old various foods and sharing the contents of her nappies with him to stufy and examine (they do wear gloves!)

I can sort of see how it works but - yuck!

I bet he was rivetted! Beats a boring worksheet about healthy foods!! It does sound a bit gross, but as long as he's not getting tooooo close, it's probably teaching him a lot, and he'll probably always remember it!!

Oh my word.

Maybe it is Gillian. Miss her on the telly with her hand knitted qualifications and poo obsession.

Does she do it as a an attempt as a controlled study? Let's feed the baby X then investigate the poo. Yesterday he ate X, today it's Y, how has the poo changed? They could have charts Grin

Or is The DS often around during nappy changing and they discuss what they see in relation to what was eaten?

Does anyone know whether babies/ children have shorter digestive tracts (relatively speaking), or whether the speed-digestion of a nappy-wearer is just because the gut flora don't detain food as happens in adults?

melonandpapayaandmango · 11/08/2012 10:00

She keeps a blog where she writes about what they did every day and poo features heavily Grin

I suppose it does work well but - ugh!

I wouldn't mind the looking, but I wouldn't go rooting in the poo with gloves on. I guess it's a good way of learning how the digestive system works, and I know my kids have gone through a phase of asking for all the details. I missed a trick there as Ds5 was still in nappies!

Blue food colouring is a good one. Ds1 had a Tardis cake for his birthday and my twins had some and their nappies were bright green after, which gave me a shock!
