TalkTalk are ignorant bastards, come and hear what they have done to my sn brother

So last week my db was visited by a rep from TalkTalk thread here
I called customer complaints the next day and the lady I spoke to was well trained in handling stroppy customers. I explained calmly that my db had cerebral palsy and learning difficulties and that he was subjected to an unwanted sales pitch from the uninvited rep. She appeared shocked and was very sympathetic. I told her that I wanted an written apology, confirmation that as my db had not signed anything, that they would not be changing his BT account over and I also said that in my opinion, the rep should be reprimanded.

This is the message I came into tonight;

Im looking to get a hold of HairyPotter in regard to HairyPotters db being signed up to TalkTalk. I've got a note here saying that customer has cerebal palsy and was approached by a sales rep from TalkTalk. We have the ID number there and we have to call you on this number. You would like the rep to be reprimanded and a written apology from us. Now, what I can do for you is, I can promise you that the account won't go live, we'll keep any eye on it to make sure it closes down and you won't across to TalkTalk. What I can't do unfortunately is send you a written apology. I mean, I've had a look, cerebral palsy is a physical disability so without sounding harsh, the customer is not vulnerable to being sold something We will cancel it down for you, you are within your cooling off period but there will be no reprimanding of agents and there will be no apology letter, Ok, I hope this is to your satisfaction HairyPotter, if there is anything else contact us.

This is the message word for word, I shit you not! I have highlighted the most offensive part but the last part is highlighted because emphasis on the no.

I am beyond furious. How dare they decide that he is not vulnerable!! It is crystal clear the second you meet him Angry but hey, he's had a look in a book.

They also denied that he had been signed up when I called, but the message makes it pretty clear that they did. I think they must have forged his signature because db is adamant he didn't sign anything.

So what next? I think I am too angry to call them back. I really want to make a fuss about they way they have treated him.

How revolting. Hairy I have retweeted for you and hope TalkTalk get back to you with a serious apology asap.

ThisWeekonFancyPuffin · 10/08/2012 07:05

Have retweeted

Very Angry on your behalf

Vajazzler · 10/08/2012 07:13

I have retweeted too as it makes me Angry when companies do crap like this.

CharlieUniformNovemberTango · 10/08/2012 07:16

I just followed you and retweeted. Appalling behaviour from talktalk.

If your brother signed a contract he should have been left with a copy surely? Can you ask for a copy from them to check the signature?

KenLeeeeeee · 10/08/2012 07:16

That's horrendous :-( I've retweeted you. I also know someone who works for the Daily Star if you decided to speak to the press.

Tee2072 · 10/08/2012 07:23

I just took a look at the Twitter stuff. You're not going to get much coverage because you started with a @. Only people following that @ will see the tweet.

I'm about to Tweet: Disgusted @TalkTalkCare. Signing up vulnerable people without consent then refuse to apologise. So very very ignorant @BBCWatchdog #TalkLies

Tee2072 · 10/08/2012 07:23

Sorry, my Twitter is Tee2072

HairyPotter · 10/08/2012 07:31

Thanks again to everyone who has retweeted Thanks , Charlie the rep only left leaflets about TalkTalk, no contract or paperwork. When dh looked at it though, he did remark that there was a bit in there that looked as if there should have been paperwork iyswim.

The lady from customer care did say that there was no record of activity on db's address, even when I told her he hadnt signed for anything she said she would keep an eye on it 'just in case' Hmm I took that to mean she was well aware that it could happen without paperwork being signed.

I am hoping TalkTalk will get in touch first thing. Can't wait to hear what they have to say for themselves.

would just like to say it is entirely possible and legal to set up a paperless direct debit, insurance companies do it all the time. means you dont have to sign anything, so if your bro gave his bank details over the phone talktalk could have signed him up. that message they left is disgusting though!

McKayz · 10/08/2012 07:34

I've retweeted for you too.

They really are horrible at talk talk.

HairyPotter · 10/08/2012 07:34

Tee I really am clueless. What should I do to maximise coverage? Should I copy your tweet and try again? As opposed to retweet you? Sorry for sounding so stupid but I really am that dumb.

Re tweeted here too

sashh · 10/08/2012 08:41

If they don't think he is vulnerable then why are they breaching data protection and dealing with you? And why are they stopping the account going 'live'?

I have disabilities, including a learning disability, but I'm quite capable of looking after my own affairs. If my brother cancelled something I ordered I'd be livid. In fact I'm sure he wouldn't be able to cancel anything for me.

I agree with go to Ofcom

prettybird · 10/08/2012 08:45

Actually, your complaint now needs to be expanded to incude the person who "dealt" Hmm with your initial complaint.

He should be re-trained to look at the full details of the complaint and the fact that you said that your db had cerebral palsy and learning difficulties. Not just look up something and decide for himself that your db is mentally competent. Angry on your behalf.

FoxtrotFoxtrotSierra · 10/08/2012 08:51

Please keep a close eye on your DB's bank account. We cancelled our account with talktalk in the cooling off period and it took 6 months of arguing with them to stop them trying to take money from us, then they tried to bill us for £250 odd for cancelling the account early. I though we had it sorted when we cancelled and they picked up the equipment, but that was just the start of it.

Am appalled at how they have behaved towards you and your DB. Sadly I'm not surprised.

Theglassishalffull · 10/08/2012 08:59

OP Talk Talk are terrible!!! My Dad is a support worker who works with people with Mental Health Problems. Many having having some sort special needs on too. The amount of times he has come home complaining about Talk Talk is unbelievable they are often very difficult to deal with. I would send your letterto ofcom.

HairyPotter · 10/08/2012 09:31

sashh that's a very good point. Yes of course they shouldn't discuss this with me, I could be anyone. Another thing to add to my growing list of dodgy dealings.

EmpressOfTheSevenFlames · 10/08/2012 09:33

Retweeted Tee. That's disgusting.

HairyPotter · 10/08/2012 09:38

My thoughts at the moment are to type this whole saga into an email then send it to as many relevant organisations as possible, including the CEO of TalkTalk. Does that sound ok?

OP posts:
FermezLaBouche · 10/08/2012 09:49

Horrificness of the situation aside, I doubt TalkTalk would be thrilled at any of their employees sending out a semi-literal, ignorant message on their behalf.
I don't have Twitter so can't support in that way, but I hope you get some kind of response pronto.
