I had a bit of a nightmare afternoon out with the dcs (dd 3.5 and ds 19 mos) this afternoon. They both kept taking off in opposite directions on a very busy, very large play area. I was getting quite stressed that I couldn't always see them both, and started berating myself for being such a helicopter parent. Well at one point I managed to lose sight of both dcs. As I frantically searched for them, I heard screaming and I knew immediately that it was ds even though I didn't see him straight away. I got that awful sick to your stomach feeling that you get when one of your kids gets hurt. Ds had fallen nearly six feet from the top of a fireman's pole thingy. The child clearly has delusions of granduer when it comes to his climbing abilities. He was fine in the end.

Anyway the lovely lady in the green sleeveless top, offered me some really kind and reassuring words and kept me from more or less losing it. I was in such a state at the time that I don't think I thanked her properly and thought that this would be the most appropriate place to do so. THANK YOU.

Very brave taking 2 under 3 out to the park on your own.

I am mental. We're going to the zoo tomorrow. Stay tuned for Madcap's ds getting eaten by a lion or adopted by gorillas.

She sounds nice.

19mo do need helicoptering in busy play areas, don't doubt yourself on that one.

CaliforniaLeaving · 09/08/2012 21:14

You are brave. Take a piece of rope and tie the kids together, it's easier if they both run off in one direction. LOL

MadCap · 09/08/2012 21:22

He's going on the reins tomorrow. That's for sure! =D

Sounds terrifying.

I'd be very reluctant to go back unless you can keep a closer eye on the 19 mo, 6ft is enough of a fall to do serious damage.

Enjoy the Zoo.

I definitely won't be going back there with out dh. It was an organised coach trip. Our local park is much more enclosed so it is alot easier to keep tabs on them.

Was it beechenhurst at all? Not really made for small kids but they can club the hill to get to the pole really easily (and quickly!!)

MadCap · 09/08/2012 22:10

It was Jojane. We were in the toddler bit. But my dd went through to the bit for the older kids and he must've followed me through when I went to being her back. There's no challenging ladder or anything to keep the little one from just running up there.
