To think it is OK to coax a cat that was practically off the drive to your hand to stroke it?

Perfectly ordinary looking cat, black and white old some of its hairs were going grey. It was sat just on the edge of a driveway. DD wanted to stroke the cat so I bent down and it came over to us. Stroking it, it was doing the face rub and purring.

A window in the house opened and a man shouted out 'What you doin to my cat?!' I said 'Oh sorry, my daughter wanted to say hello' he said 'Well DON'T IT'S MY CAT' and slammed the window shut. We walked away pretty sharpish in case he was on his way down, and DD was shouting 'BYE CAT!'

Anyway it got me wondering if it is acceptable to call over and then stroke another persons cat?

I love cats, i try to avoid stroking them though, cats are stupid friendly, and have a tendancy to follow, i worry that they will follow over a road and get run over

How strange! I always stroke random cats, I can't see why it would upset the owner Confused

The only thing I hate is we live near a school and my cats sit in the window, so every day the school kids walk past and bang the window to get their attention. Don't touch my fucking windows!!

Unless it's some kind of euphemism, it's ok to stroke someone else's cat. If it is a euphemism, then get permission first.

Miserable bugger probably wanted some contact with people but is a complete arse and has no friends doesn't have any social skills, so is stuck with yelling out the window to quell his loneliness. :(

Just don't encourage the cats to cross the road. That's the only time my mum will bollock people who fuss her cats (she lost one (hit by a car) as he was returning from a fuss from some picnickers)

Feel free to come to ours and stroke our neighbors cat. Hopefully he'll follow you home and stop leaving me 'gifts' Grin
