Please help!
A few weeks ago I dropped off a health declaration form at the doctors for them to fill out (I'm in the process of becoming a childminder, it's compulsory.) Doctor said fine, come back in a week and it'll be ready, pay then.
I'd called about a month before handing it in to check how much it would cost and the receptionist I spoke to told me £14. I was quite surprised as I was told by the council to expect it to be up to £120. I even said it sounded cheap and the receptionist confirmed the price. When I had my appointment I checked again, the doctor said it depended how long it would take him to fill it out and looked at it and said it probably wouldn't take long at all and that an invoice would be in with the forms when I picked it up.
I've just called the doctors to find out how much it was going to cost. None of the receptionists seemed to know, so they asked the manager who checked and it and she said they charge a flat fee of £87! I'm so annoyed! We're totally skint and I had been putting off picking the forms up until I had £40 to pay (in case it had been slightly more than I was told) which obviously has delayed my application- its going to be even longer now.

Would I be wrong to question paying the full £87 and make a fuss?

Yes, complain.

The receptionist misinformed you and that's not on - it's a lot of money! OTOH it's not the doctor's fault so I think you might end up paying, but the receptionist should not give out the wrong information like that.

Do you have a record of the date of the phonecall and the receptionist's name? If you do, they'd be helpful things to put in a letter of complaint.

you expected £120, so at some point you thought you would have to pay that, so would would have had to save for that, so i would be happy that it is only £87 and tell the receptionist to be more bloody careful in future!

I'd complain as LRD said.
