That's it really. Occasionally see this on threads (on one at the moment). Why do people think that a single parent can't be earning enough to disqualify them from benefit payments?

And, yes, of course we currently receive child benefit, same as everyone else. That will stop for lots of us soon regardless of relationship status.

Until recently didn't all parents, single or otherwise, get child benefit? So not an unreasonable assumption at all.

Also, most MNers would have encountered Xenia, who IIRC is a single parent and a high earner, and very vocal about both those things!

Seriously though, it's no wonder that women are still not fully equal in so many workplaces when both sexes treat the work/children balance as 'men & partners earn, single parents or females should shoulder the childcare'.

I'm not rushing to deny it, it's just annoying that all single/lone parents are assumed to be the same.

Bit like saying all SAHMs spend all day in Starbucks when the children are at school or something equally stupid. Just grates.
