I am trying to be healthy and lose weight but over the past few weeks I've noticed fresh fruit and veg is crappy quality. In my town I have 2 Morrisons and 1 Sainsburys as well as some local Sainsburys stores. All have crappy fruit and veg at the moment.

Tonight I went to Morrisons and all the fruit and veg I got will only last a couple of days when I would expect it to last longer than that. It looks past its best already but it was the best that was available.

I spotted the manager and spoke to him and he said something along the lines of 'It's the evening. Our best stuff is sold in the day time.' Errr surely people who can't shop in the daytime should be allowed to buy decent stuff too! I was so flabergasted I just walked away.

Don't even get me started about the dented tins and poor choice of meat (only massive family sized packs left).

I rarely buy fruit and veg from the supermarkets as I get all of mine from Abel and Cole. It's a great variety, and lasts all week. Are you buying things which are out of season??

I was talking to a friend yesterday whose sister is a market gardener and she said all their fruit & veg is very bad this year because of all the rain - she reckons prices will be high this autumn.

afaik it is a real issue, farming conditions have been rubbish and not fitting easily into the agreed order schedule with the supermarkets..
even the stuff I have been buying from the local market haven't been great

I got some fabulous fruit and veg in Aldi today. Gorgeous asparagus and sweet white nectarines for a start. And cheap too.

Ahhh I never thought of the high amount of rain. That probably explains it. I did try my market but it was even worse than Morrisons. I might try Aldi though as there is one in the next town.

Although I do the majority of my shopping in a supermarket, I nearly always buy fruit and veg at our local greengrocers. I have noticed some of the stock is not quite the quality usually stocked but as I am able to buy on the day rather than buying for the week, no difference noted really.*

Yes, its much poorer quality. My veg on my allotment (nurtured and mollycoddled to within an inch of its life) is going off incredibly quickly. Raspberries/strawbs/blackcurrants I pick in the morning have to be eaten that day or the water content is so high they go mouldy overnight.

The same with the amount of water in my courgettes and onions - there is generally too much.

Stick to frozen veg (unless you grow your own and can eat immediately), it's much healthier anyway as it's frozen the second it's picked.
