To want to force

some idiot from the DWP to come and live here for a week.
Sorry, got the letter today, DH got turned down for the higher rate mobility. Am so angry, he can only walk about ten yards with a stick. Can't walk without one. They've had consultant letters, gp letters the bloody lot. The drugs he has to take are controlled drugs, surely that should give some bugger a hint that this is serious stuff.
So, Dh will be housebound until the appeal, because it takes just as long to go through the hoops for a blue badge without higher rate, as it does to appeal.
Aaarrrggggghhhhhh!

Poor you. No wonder you (and presumably your DH) are seething.

I've been reading a lot lately in the Guardian about the way the Tories are outsourcing the assessments to private companies, and loads of people who are severely disabled or seriously ill aren't getting the benefits that they genuinly need.

It seems like the economy is in a mess, the Coalition have decided to make a load of cuts to public services, and they're picking on the vulnerable.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you get the right result with your appeal.

Dawndonna · 08/08/2012 20:03

Thank you Cariad. Yes, I've seen people in worse situations than us and yes, I'm convinced, despite Chris Grayling's regular denial, that they are picking on vulnerable people in the hopes that they can't/won't fight back.

There is a lot of blaming people on benefits for the state the country is in, and a lot of that comes from the government.

They are hoping that we will all roll over and let them chip away. They are nearing their limit and will surely find the poll tax problems of many years ago will appear to be nothing compared to our anger.

The 'normal' people that they are hoping will side with them in all these cuts actually have relations and friends who are disabled or long term ill.

oh my goodness, that was very political for me

NicholasTeakozy · 08/08/2012 21:26

These people are cunts. The government line is being echoed by other odious cunts like The Sun and the Daily Heil. The only journalist who writes for a right wing rag who is on the side of the disabled is Sonia Poulton. It appears, unfortunately, that she's fighting a losing battle and idiots the populace are being indoctrinated to blame the disabled for problems in the economy.

Any politician who believes these cuts are right should live as a disabled person does under this new reich.

Dawndonna · 08/08/2012 22:26

Trouble is, they can't experience the pain, the fact that the drugs for the pain can make you feel sick, so you don't feel like eating, which in turn causes other problems. The pain that no matter what you take, keeps you awake. The nightmares that some drugs give you. etc.

They can all afford extra nursing care so as you say, don't give a shit, they're not the ones getting up at night, running around all day.
Wankers!

Have you been to a solicitor yet? I wonder whether the private companies receive a binus for refusung claims.

Thank you Raffles. We too are fortunate and do not need to rely on the money. Having said that, the cost of his prescriptions are £53.00 per month. Or would be, but I pay in advance. It's the fact that 1) He can't walk, and 2)He is housebound without a badge. Literally, because if I can't park outside where he needs to go, then he can't manage it. If we can't park for his hospital appointments, it can take 20 minutes to do the three minute walk, and then by the time he gets to see the consultant he's incoherent due to pain and exhaustion.
I will take him to the appeal, the GP says they'll take one look at him and award it immediately.

YANBU.

Unfortunately, I've seen this many times. After helping hundreds of people through the process of applying for disability benefits, I cannot see any consistency with who gets it and who doesn't. It seems to be a lottery. And in the mean time, peoples lives are being seriously inhibited and individuals and families have to suffer, get into debt and struggle with everyday life. The DWP don't seem to see the human side of the story.

I'm sorry for your situation, Dawn and hope your appeal is successful.

SoleSource · 09/08/2012 11:39

Oh Dawn, Please let us kniw what happens, I hope, your,GP is right. When is appeal?

Pseudo341 · 09/08/2012 11:42

Get down the CAB, you need a degree in the subject to fill those stupid forms in right, I got my DLA on appeal after a lovely lady at the CAB sorted my forms out for me. I think they just turn everyone down as standard first time around in the hope that some won't appeal and they'll save money. YANBU

Dawndonna · 09/08/2012 12:00

No idea. Only got the letter yesterday, but got straight on the phone for appeal forms. They said they'd send them first class. Let's hope. Apparently, due to the rather high number of appeals, it can take quite some time.

ffs they put us parents of SN children through the mill. They want to know the ins and outs of our pet cats arse and still not enough. I suggest speaking to a manager at DLA.
