Is supposed to be home on Monday but has been informed they need extra people for the Paralympics, looks like DD's summer holidays are a write off! He won't be home til Sept 13th!

Also Shock at this: "He isn't at any of those places, they can'tvuse the local amenities because 'the residents aren't used to military uniforms and we don't want to offend or upset them.' "

What sort of rock do they think these people are living under. Where in the UK, never mind any of the Olympic venues, could you find people who have never seen a military uniform FGS??? And what do they think will happen if they see one? Will they pass out in horror? What utter rubbish.

I don't like this 'it's his job'. His job shouldn't be to be used as a glorified steward because a company has fucked up.

GingerWrath · 08/08/2012 11:42

He is staying on an RAF base on the outskirts and is being bussed into the venue at the start of a shift which takes an hour and a half and bussed back again at the end of a shift which is another hour and a half.

Yes completely agree MummyPigs - totally ridiculous.

'the residents aren't used to military uniforms and we don't want to offend or upset them.'

Since the authorities were not the slightest bit squeamish about siting ground to air missiles on residential properties it is a bit rich to suggest that seeing military uniforms are going to upset anyone!

I think a lot of people admire the way that the military have baled out the Government and G4S and from what I've heard from friends who've already visited the Olympic sites, a great job is being done by them.

MummyPigsFatTummy · 08/08/2012 11:52

Good point Pandemoniaa, and totally agree that the military have been fabulous (from personal experience at Eton Dorney).

I would just like to say, that when DH joined the RAF in 1986 he did it to become a very highly skilled air craft technician, not some bloke to be crowd control when a private firm who were paid millions got it wrong. Very wrong.

It possess me off the way our Forces are used and abused, and whilst DH personally hasn't had to go to the Olympics hos working hours have got longer and he is under more pressure because the people left behind have to fill in for those who, have gone. Not one of them is getting any more money, but hey ho it's his job!Hmm
