To take a 2 yr old and 5 yr old to the hairdressers with me?

desperately in need of a cut and colour, hairdressers has been shut for a week and discovered today my stylist not doing Saturdays any more, so tomorrow's the only slot they have. Have one child outsourced but nowhere for the others to go - it is a child friendly salon with dvd's though.

Aibu to take them?

There is a kids salon downstairs with a play area

If you are suggesting your kids are on a different floor from you then you are expecting other people to watch them for you and that's not fair.

ShutTheFrontDoor · 07/08/2012 21:58

I would cancel and go to a stylist who works Saturday's. It's not fair on the staff and other customers.
This is one of the reasons I have worked hard on offering my babysitting services to all my friends so I have a lot of people I can ask to return the favour.
Single parent with no family help so I have to rely on my friends.

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 07/08/2012 21:59

No, no, I'd get mine done down there too! Not that cheeky!

A small baby or five year old would be okay but a two year old is the worst age ever! I feel sorry for the other people in the hairdresser's!

YouOldSlag · 07/08/2012 22:06

Brandnew- oh that's a relief, but still- either don't go or change your stylist.

If you can't give them 100% attention then you can't look after them properly in the hairdressers. Let's face it, with a head full of foils you can hardly sprint after them and your hairdresser may make mistakes if you keep moving or running off or doing the "put that down", "get off that" thing the whole time.

Olympia2012 · 07/08/2012 22:09

You would get your hair coloured in the kids salon? Is that what usually happens?

Is it all small chairs etc? Child friendly..

ShutTheFrontDoor · 07/08/2012 22:10

Mmm well if it's a kids salon, with a play area then that's definitely not as bad. I may risk it but you'll be v stressed.

BellaVita · 07/08/2012 22:10

I would not be happy if someone else's 2yr old played up at the hairdressers whist I was having my hair done. I go to relax whilst having my hair done.

YABVU.

Idocrazythings · 07/08/2012 22:12

You'd be a braver woman than me?

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 07/08/2012 22:15

There's an adult salon upstairs where I normally go, but they can do downstairs if one of the children's positions are free. So annoying as it won't be a problem next month - 2 yr old will be at nursery on the day my stylist is there.

Think I'll have to cancel Sad

YouOldSlag · 07/08/2012 22:18

There you are then - wait a month!

WorraLiberty · 07/08/2012 22:20

What would you do if your stylist moved to another country or something?

Just get someone else

corygal · 07/08/2012 22:20

YANBU. Irritation for everyone else, disrespectful to staff, cringe-making for you. Call a mobile hairdresser.

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 07/08/2012 22:21

He's gone off to Toni and guy on Fridays and Saturday's. Grr.

It's taken me years to find one I like

Sirzy · 07/08/2012 22:25

I would wait until the 2 year old is at nursery then. I have enough trouble keeping my 2 year old Ds still for his hair cut let alone keeping him around when I get mine done!

McHappyPants2012 · 07/08/2012 22:40

Do your hair at home, I colour my own hair all the time and I am normally a walking nightmare with hair.

YouOldSlag · 08/08/2012 09:51

I just think if you can't look after them properly whilst having hair done then you are therefore expecting other people to i.e salon staff.

You will also distract your stylist who may may accidental mistakes when their client lurches suddenly out of the chair mid cut to grab a 2yo.

it's a bad idea all round. there's no good points!

verytellytubby · 08/08/2012 10:07

No way. Just go to a different hairdresser on the day you have childcare.

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 08/08/2012 18:37

Managed it! But not with the kids

My desperate pleas paid off, and three lovely friends agreed to have one each of the kids, very pleased to have it done. No more dodgy roots!

Thanks for your help!

I think the owner was a bit disappointed that I didn't take them in, he'd lined up his teenage daughter to babysit them for me, he's such a sweetheart Grin

New hair, yay!
