just read on BBC website that 7 of the Cameroon Olympic team have absconded and gone 'missing'

So, where are they? Did the olympic committee not think this might happen?

I have read that someone has already claimed assylum.

I would doubt very much that the 15-year old is 'roaming the country' -- the defectors are probably with friends. Who knows what pressure they might be under at home? Cameroon has an authoritarian government and severe poverty.
