I think legacy is difficult to access; but there will be some benefit. I hope they build some decent houses in the east end

They have. The athletes village is future housing for the area.

DH wrote his undergraduate dissertation on the London Olympics' legacy. I can post the whole thing here if you like. I proof read it for him. It's not short.

BlueBirdsNest · 07/08/2012 12:05

Legacy?

The whole thing is corporate money ......they built the stadiums in the 'deprived' areas for a reason....it was cheaper

Maybe the legacy will be children get off the sofa and going and outdoors and playing ome sport

BlueBirdsNest · 07/08/2012 12:06

*some

Maybe it will force the government to put back the money they cut from school sport budgets. The lasting legacy will be affordable housing in a deprived area.

kimjoy · 07/08/2012 12:21

thanks Sue. Hope your right.

A small thing in comparison to housing and the like, but I think I heard that all the equipment used at the Olympics will be donated to schools, sports clubs etc afterwards.

LadyBeagleEyes · 07/08/2012 12:54

Hopefully the legacy will be our young people, especially girls will stop following idiots like the 'stars' of Towie, and wags and want to emulate people like Jessica Ennis.
She is a true role model

stargirl1701 · 07/08/2012 13:28

Well said Lady Beagle.

Inspired children certainly mine has been. She has sports she had never even heard of before. We attended the cross country phase of the three day event so in addition to the 11.4km she walked round the course (2x) she is asking when can we go again.

BellaOfTheBalls · 07/08/2012 13:44

If my 4yo can be truly inspired then I think anyone can be. I hope it gets other more unusual sports into the spotlight; it doesn't all have to be about fast cars and football.

TBH I think the biggest thing for me is the feel in the country as a whole. It feels like it has really brought people together; particularly when you think about the riots this time last year. I think the positive stories on the news have helped. A wee holiday from the doom & gloom of austerity measures!

I went for a 3.5mile bike ride this morning. It was my first bike ride in a gerzillion years - yes I know it's not long if you're V Pendleton, but it was a start! I have also just booked some riding lessons.

So the legacy is already in action in my house, and I would never ever have thought I would be inspired by sport after being a complete failure at PE at school, and therefore being ignored by PE teachers who just wanted to work with girls who liked, and were good at, netball and hockey.

My school years were many many moons ago, but the 'legacy' of those PE lessons is still unfortunately in place, hopefully being kicked out by my new Olympics legacy!
