Feeling harrassed at home and on the school run

A few weeks ago before the holidays started the next doors daughter (9) came out of the house, pointed at me and shouted "you're off spongebob". I was like Hmm ok ... and then later that day they'd just arrived back from shopping and she yelled "SPONGEBOB" at me over the fence. Her mum popped her head over and said "oh take no notice, she just thinks you look like a character off spongebob" Hmm err ok, bit rude though no?

Day after i'm unloading shopping and the girls dad comes out of the house and says hello to DS and then "hi Sandy" at me - meaning this bloody character from spongebob. I ignored him but later that day I went to pick DS up from school and he's stood there waiting for his DD and shouts across the playground "SANDY FROM SPONGEBOB" everyone looked at him, he pointed to me so everybody looked at me Angry I can take a joke but there is a line.

Anyway this has gone on every day since and today I took DD to a summer club at the school and this bloke started actually chanting "sandy, sandy, sandy" etc over and over again Confused and then his wife joined in and the 9 year old screamed at the top of her voice "SPONGEBOB WOMAN" - que her dad doing a dance whilst chanting spongebob woman.

I know it sounds stupid but this is pissing me right off now. I can't just ignore it as they do it in public and people are starting to take notice.
I'm dreading the new term.

If this is true then YANBU and these people are complete lunatics.

Move immediately would be my advice.

AmberLeaf · 07/08/2012 00:52

So do you look like sandy cheeks from spongebob squarepants?

TellyBug · 07/08/2012 00:55

This can't be true....

If it is you need to just start shouting, "Well, at least I don't look like a cunt!" back at them. Even to the kids. Maybe.

lisad123 · 07/08/2012 00:57

Do you look like sandy?
Madness and I would throw pie at them Grin

MamaMimi · 07/08/2012 01:00

What a very wierd and extremely rude family you have as neighbours.

I can sort of understand a 9yo innocently displaying this sort of behaviour, but then it should be discouraged in a disapproving way by the parents. I can't believe they are not only encouraging it but being as bad themselves - if not worse tbh as they should know better.

Next time it happens tell them to 'shut the fuck up' - see how they like someone else speaking their mind to them!

Seriously? Adults behave this way?

I would embarrass the fuck out of them. Walk right up to them and stand in front of them. Say nothing. That usually produces an awkward silence in the person you are looking at. When they quiet down and start to blush, calmly say "You do realise that you are making yourselves look very odd, don't you?" Stand and wait for two seconds for a reply, and if they don't, roll your eyes and walk away.

thatboysmum · 07/08/2012 01:14

My DS often points out people who he thinks look like someone else... I normally get really embarrassed and explain that they are not who he thinks they are and it is rude to point at strangers... he is also 4 not 9!
I think that is extremely rude if true and probably would have lost it with them by now. Seriously who does that? It's weird!!
The next time the girl says something I would probably try and explain to her directly that its not a very nice way to treat/speak to people and if the parents say it I would probably be very direct, making them feel very awkward.

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 07/08/2012 01:18

What the actual fuck?
I'd tell them to fuck off back to the scum hole they crawled out of.

But Whereyouleftits suggestion is better.

youngermother1 · 07/08/2012 01:36

my dh thinks Sandy is hot

JumpingThroughHoops · 07/08/2012 06:40

Do you walk around in a space suit with a goldfish bowl on your head?

Clytaemnestra · 07/08/2012 07:11

If he's shrieking about a kids cartoon in the playground. And he's not actually 4, you're not the one people will be laughing at.

Gumby · 07/08/2012 07:15

Ha ha nice one op

Gingerodgers · 07/08/2012 07:23

Give em some crabby patties!

sugarice · 07/08/2012 08:14

How very strange and what nasty neighbours. In my head I would go with TellyBug's suggestion but WhereYouLeftit probably has the most sensible idea.

Tee2072 · 07/08/2012 08:41

So you're a squirrel in a space suit with a goldfish bowl on your head?

How can you possibly take this seriously?

Fecklessdizzy · 07/08/2012 08:47

Sandy is cool. They are deeply stupid. Cheer up though, at least it wasn't Squidward Wink.

TheCunningStunt · 07/08/2012 08:49

Do you live in SandyBottom?

GeekLove · 07/08/2012 10:49

Sandy is really cool though! She's a scientist and inventor and does loads of other things like martial arts and weightlifting and still likes pretty stuff too. I'd give them a big beam and thumbs up. That and the fact it will unnerve them

SoleSource · 07/08/2012 12:06

Totally ignire frim now on. No heellis, no good mornings just ignore. Train yourself not to even look in their direction. They're only neighbours. Fuck all else.

sue52 · 07/08/2012 12:15

You say people are starting to notice. What they are noticing is the bizare behaviour of your neighbours who do sound very odd indeed. I would ignore them totally.
