Nannyto2 · 06/08/2012 20:37

No it won't.

we have had our summer!

sceptical, so then I can be pleased when we get a late indian summer

PenisVanLesbian · 06/08/2012 21:44

it's autumn, so too late.

freddiefrog · 06/08/2012 21:46

I've given up on it now. It's not been too bad here but it's not been summer dress weather either

I'm happy if it stays dry, sun is a brucie bonus

vodkaanddietirnbru · 06/08/2012 21:59

after torrential rain here today (again) we are supposed to get some dry weather for the next few days

vodkaanddietirnbru · 06/08/2012 22:01

p.s. August is till a summer month. It's not autumn until September

stressheaderic · 06/08/2012 22:06

I've always thought that September, October and even sometimes November were warmer and sunnier than July and August. As long as I've been a teacher, it has rained throughout August and been a soggy end of term thus ruining our staff barbeque bitter

OhYouGreatGreatBritain · 06/08/2012 22:11

Make the most of what ever nice bits we get as I can't see any pattern change in the models as far as they extend (22nd August)

OhYouGreatGreatBritain · 06/08/2012 22:11

Thurs and fri look pretty nice before the showers and rain return.

PenisVanLesbian · 06/08/2012 23:50

in my country summer begins may 1st and ends aug 1st. It's autumn. The summer solstice is june 21st, the mid point of summer.

MNsFavouriteManHater · 06/08/2012 23:51

this wednesday, apparently

manticlimactic · 07/08/2012 00:28

I'm back at work Thursday and Friday. Look forward to the sun people. Because it's always sunny when I work.

garlicnuts · 07/08/2012 00:42

Great, manti, would you please go back to work NOW?

The forecast here is more and more rain. We can only tell it's August because it's a bit warmer than last month. In between hefty, battering-ram type showers, we all run outdoors and go "Lovely day today!" before it starts again. I'm fed up. My garden went straight from Spring to Autumn, with added rot. I've had to get my SAD lamp out (in August!) to avert suicide. I only hang washing outdoors when I fancy a laugh.

Summer will arrive eventually, OP. Next year, perhaps, or the year after ...

Flobbadobs · 07/08/2012 09:30

Of course summer will come. The day the DC's start back at school will be the hottest day of the year so far and it will carry on till the end of September. Happens nearly every single year round here!

Gumby · 07/08/2012 09:36

Summer solstice is half way through the year not summer
Autumn starts 21st sept
Winter starts 21st December
Spring 21st march
Summer 21st June

I think

PenisVanLesbian · 07/08/2012 09:39

Actually, as I said, in our calander it is exactly half way through the summer. Its how the summer is dated.
Winter - November, December, January. (Mí na Samhna, Mí na Nollag, Eanáir)
Spring - February, March, April. (Feabhra, Márta, Aibreán)
Summer - May, June, July. (Bealtaine, Meitheamh, Iúil)
Autumn - August, September, October. (Lúnasa, Meán Fómhair, Deireadh Fómhair)

rogersmellyonthetelly · 07/08/2012 09:55

I think summer will arrive at some point, but possibly not before the winter. Actually it's not been too bad here the last 3 weeks, only a few days of rain which is pretty normal for the uk. It was the rain all day every day from April to mid July which I found particularly depressing!

chipsandmushypeas · 07/08/2012 09:57

Yanbu it will arrive...when my plane touches down in Cyprus in 3 weeks Grin

garlicnuts · 07/08/2012 10:21

Interesting diversion, Penis! Gaelic Seasons.
Thanks :)

garlicnuts · 07/08/2012 10:24

I just learned, too, that I tend to think in meteorological seasons (1st of March, June, Sept, December). Not that I'm thinking in terms of summer at all this year :(
