to think an email stating "your order will be delivered 6th August" means just that?

freddiefrog · 06/08/2012 19:44

I ordered something from Amazon on their Amazon Prime Next Day delivery service.

At the time of ordering I got an estimated delivery date of 7th August (which wasn't 'next day' by any stretch of the imagination, but fine) so organise my week so I can be in on the 7th.

I then get an email from the courier this morning to tell me that my "order will be delivered 6th August". On their tracking page it tells me that it's "at delivery depot"

So, I rearrange my plans so I can stay home today instead.

6.30pm comes around and no delivery. I check the tracking page and it still says it's at the delivery depot. So I call company to find out where it is.

"oh, no, Mrs Freddiefrog, your item is still in the hub in Birmingham, it might be delivered 8am to 8pm tomorrow".

So why send me an email stating it will be today? If it's in Birmingham, why does it state on the tracking page it's in the delivery depot?

So, I demanded a before 10am delivery or a specific time my item will be delivered - 'oh, no, we can't do that, it'll be between 8am and 8pm, we're sorry for any inconvenience'

I was fine with the delivery on the 7th, I'd planned to be in. If they hadn't sent the email, with clearly no intention of delivering today anyway, I wouldn't have been stuck indoors all day, with 2 whingey kids on their school holidays, and then have to do it again tomorrow

I've been on an Amazon strike recently as their courier messes up 9 out of ten times I order but the product I was ordering was massively, massively cheaper at Amazon so I bit the bullet.

So, Amazon have given me yet another free 2 month extension on my Prime account (I think it's a year's worth of free Prime I've had now due to their cock ups) that I'm not going to use as my Amazon strike is back on, and I've got to wait around for another day.

Morons

Leave the bastards! Grin

StealthPolarBear · 06/08/2012 19:46

that is incredibly annoying

McHappyPants2012 · 06/08/2012 19:49

Annoying, I always tend to use websites that use royal mail as it goes to the depo and I just pick it up from there

GhostShip · 06/08/2012 19:51

Someone was on the news the other day, he took the company to court and ended up getting money because it wasn't delivered on the day he was told.

I've always found amazons next day delivery brilliant.

GhostShip · 06/08/2012 19:52

Tis a shame though because a lot of good companies are at the mercy of the couriers. People blame the company.

freddiefrog · 06/08/2012 19:57

It's definately the courier, but Amazon use this particular courier to deliver to my area. I've asked for it to be sent out Royal Mail but Amazon refuse.

I've had problems with this particular courier when ordering from other companies as well.

I always ring and ask what courier company companies use before placing an order, and usually avoid ordering anything from anyone who uses this company.

I was seduced by the price in this instance (at least half the price of the cheapest I've seen it elsewhere).

I'm just bloody annoyed they sent the email stating it would be today, I was fine with the first date they gave me

Which courier? Is it Yodel? If so, you're not alone in finding them utterly shite:

www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2012/03/yodel.html

I've had no issues with Amazon as all my orders are too small, but another company used them to deliver some garden furniture, and we had exactly the same issue as you. It took three attempts to deliver, then the goods were damaged, and then they turned up a day early(!) to collect. Awful.

GhostShip · 06/08/2012 20:34

A lot of companies are leaving yodel ;)

freddiefrog · 06/08/2012 20:36

Surprisingly it's not Yodel. They're also on my list to avoid like the plague, but in this instance it's DPD

I have to say the Amazon Prime is terrible. For the short time I had it they missed every single delivery commitment! I went back to their standard service as it was quicker.

freddiefrog · 06/08/2012 21:44

I've not been impressed with Prime lately either

I did the free trial but forgot to cancel it so let it go for a year and the deliveries were fine to start with, then they changed to DPD and it all went downhill so I cancelled at the end of the year. DPD have cocked up so many times that Amazon kept giving me free extensions to my Prime account - I've had it free for at least a year now it's been extended so many times.

I'm giving up on Amazon now until they go back to which ever company they were using before they started with DPD

How weird, I was only saying to DH yesterday how good it has been since Amazon started using DPD. Yesterday I got something delivered - not only did they email me in the morning and confirm it would be delivered yesterday, a couple of hours later I got an email and a text with the 1 hour time slot.

Is it a regional thing I wonder? As your experience is clearly crap and poles apart from mine.

Hope it arrives tomorrow without any more problems.

freddiefrog · 06/08/2012 22:06

My mum said the same thing about Yodel as well. They've started using DPD in her area and said it's much better.

They are utterly useless here though, every delivery has been 2 or 3 days late, lost or I've had to do an hours round trip to collect it as they can't find my address

And it wouldn't be so bad if their customer service was any good, 30 minutes on hold and no replies to emails. When you do get hold of them they won't admit they've messed up and try to be accommodating (i.e deliver 1st thing, or late in the evening so I don't have to waste another day due to yet another of their cock ups)

And breathe Smile

I dont really rely on delivery dates usually. I live in scotland (which some companies class as the middle of nowhere). I dont get next day delivery, always have to pay more & they never come when they say they will. No matter what delivery company or business i order from. Luckily im not working so im in most days. The packages seem to sit in the depot for about a week.

My 3 year old dn could do a better job

JeezyPeeps · 07/08/2012 06:26

Sounds dreadful :(. We have no trouble with Amazon locally, but Yodel don't deliver here.

Is it possible that you could get your Amazon orders delivered to your work address, or to a friend/relative that's more likely to be in?

You would have thought amazon would want to address these issues at the root cause, but sadly I don't think their customer service is anywhere near what it once was.

Peppin · 07/08/2012 07:39

I've had this SO many times with Amazon. E.g. Ordered a camera on express delivery to arrive in time for kids' sports day. It arrived 2 days later. I complained, they refunded the delivery charge (£5), which didn't compensate for the absence of any photos of sports day (though tbh nothing could). Just recently, I ordered a whole load of books for DD for the holidays, a week before we were going away. First class delivery said they should arrive within 2-3 working days, by the 4th working day they had not even been dispatched.

They are a bit crap but if you play it right you can get a bit back. This time I complained "nicely" and said "I think you should give my daughter a £10 gift voucher, what do you think?" and they credited my account with it straight away.

EssexGurl · 07/08/2012 09:59

Yodel have changed their name - so it might be them !!!

freddiefrog · 07/08/2012 10:02

DH and I usually work from home so it's not usually a problem as one of us are around.

We've rearranged work for the summer holidays so we can go out with the kids (we're flexible so can work in the evenings, leaving the days free).

DPD let me down every single time I use them.

3/4 of my DD2's christmas presents were lost - on the 24th December

Some Victorian lady costumes I'd ordered (and paid extra for before 10am next day delivery) for a Victorian day at school arrived a week late

A camera was lost - and the lying delivery driver forged my signature to claim it had been delivered which took months to sort out and get refunded

I just refuse to order anything from companies who use them. I should have stuck to my guns and not ordered from Amazon but the price was so much cheaper I couldn't not order it from there. I should have known.

Amazon's customer service has gone to the dogs as well. They couldn't care less, just keep extending my Prime account, it's no use to me as I won't be shopping with them ever again

GhostShip · 07/08/2012 10:10

They havnt changed their name.

freddiefrog · 07/08/2012 18:17

And it still hasn't been delivered!

I'm upgrading 'morons' to incompetent, blithering imbeciles
