To let my DD play in the mud?

DD is 2.5 she loves messy play. We got her a new pair of wellies yesterday and she was dying to go jump in puddles so as soon as it cleared up today we headed out to find some. We went to a local school field which had a giant muddy puddle she was on her element. She was covered mind. Next minute she fell forward and landed on her hands and knees I had my phone out as while she was splashing I was talking to my mum I dashed to rescue her but she was laughing her head off so I went to take a photo ( maybe I was being a bad mum and should have picked her up) anyway at that moment a yellow van drove past the entrance to the field probably about 30 ft away from us and the occupants shouted 'she's drinking the water' ( she wasn't) 'that's sick that's sick' very aggresively.

I was quite shaken and a little upset and now feel like I've done something wrong :(

The white van men probably had used up all their sexist lines for the day on other women already so were just left with general PITA-ness.

Kids should get messy. It's lovely!

YANBU. We were out at the cycling last week when DS found a gang of kids to play with and a puddle to sit down in. One of the bigger kids pushed him and I marched over, the others thought I was going to shout at DS for sitting in the water. I left him to it. He went home in his pants. Grin

I was always playing in the mud! Which is why I got the nickname 'Diggy Dana' Blush

Got I need a name change after all the embarrassing things Ive shared this week.

Badgerina · 07/08/2012 09:34

YANBU. Mud is scientifically proven to be good for kids Grin Grin

YANBU. Kids + mud = fun. And fewer allergies.

You sound fab! Carry on!

Molehillmountain · 07/08/2012 10:00

Well, peppa pig seems to be pretty healthy on it Wink

My dd probably would be drinking the water. I don't encourage the water drinking but the muddy puddle playing, and dirt, and stones, and rolling about on the floor in all kinds of weather is something that just cant be avoided has to be done. Grin

R U sure they were being aggressive ?
I am reliably informed by DCs that 'sick' actually means brilliant. The greater the emphasis on the word 'sick' the higher the compliment apparently Grin
For a cultural reference to this watch Barbie in Mertopia where the commentator compliments on her 'sick' moves on her surfboard Wink
Hope you feel better now.

Sorry forgot Yanbu to let dd play in the mud!

Morebiscuitsplease · 08/08/2012 15:51

Good for you, feel sorry for them. They were probably not allowed to play in mud.

WithoutCaution · 08/08/2012 15:52

All children should be allowed to play in mud and be able to make mud pies Grin

I was out with DS last weekend and he was having a ball jumping in muddy puddles a woman walked past us and said "thats what being a toddler is all about, looks like he is having a ball"
