To think HV is being alarmist?

Took DS3 to baby clinic today to be weighed. At 19 and a 1/2 weeks he is 15lbs. Had a normal delivery at 38 +6 and he weighed 9lb 6ozs.
He was exclusively breastfed for 7 weeks but then due to mastitis and horrible D&V bug I started combined feeding with SMA due to issues with my supply.
He is wearing 3-6mth clothes and has 3 x 9oz bottles each day and a feed with me at bedtime. He WAS on 4 x 8oz feeds plus the night-feed with me but since teething has properly kicked in 2-3 weeks ago and he turned into drooly baby he's gone down to 3 feeds.
He's a happy, contented little fella and is NOT shy about telling us if he's hungry - but he honestly seems happy with his routine and sleeps all night through for us.

HV is tutting at us saying he should start solids as the "dip is not good". He is currently showing NO interest in solids, at all. I have used BLW with his two older brothers and am used to taking my cues from them.

AIBU to think she's being unnecessarily jumpy?
Or am I being too relaxed? Am honestly starting to question myself now so all opinions welcome.

Have you thought about offering the breast more frequently? I'm not trying to be a mad bf advocate or anything but if he enjoys his night time feed and latches happily it would be a way of offering more milk for free without waste.

DS2 was on the 90th centile when born. He then went down to the 25th centile by the time he started school. He is now over 6' tall, an apprentice butcher with massive muscular shoulders.

They grow at their own rate, as long as they are healthy and content ignore the rigid HV. I did Grin

If your DS hasn't actually lost any weight; just gained at a slower rate, I wouldn't worry. He sounds happy and contented. Not all babies who are heavy at birth go on being large all their lives.

My DS was born big and didn't follow the line.
I took him to the doc for a possible chest infection when he was four month. Got told that his chest is fine 'but your baby is too small'
cue LOTS of visits to weigh clinic, back and forth to doc & HV, medication for his reflux (which the HV had ignored until then), constipation from the meds ..... you get the gist
then I got seen by a wonderful doc in the practice. who when I offered her the red book put it to one side and said, I don't like looking at a red book and telling you there is something wrong with your baby, I like looking at a baby and telling you he's ok.
He is bright, responsive. He has no other problems than being small. He's just small. Some people are born big and not meant to be big.
I so wished I'd spoke to her first

So in your situation, I would book to see the doc at your practice with a speciality in childrens health, and don't offer the red book ;)

CecilyP - only loss was just after birth went from 91st centile thingy to 75th and then followed that until just now when he's dropped to next one down but while still gaining weight at each visit... Just not as much as expected!
He's gorgeous though - she says with nooooo bias whatsoever GrinGrin and looks like a lovely little puddin!

WelshMaenad - diolch! Smile dwin dysgu cymraeg! I'd love for him to take the breast more but he shoves it out of the way when I offer it during the day!! Sad think when he's hungry he wants it NOW and doesn't want to "work" for it whereas the night one is just comfort and cuddles and the milk is a bonus IYSWIM.
I hated having to introduce formula - but it was that or him starve ..... But that's a whole other thread, and I'm not brave enough to open THAT can of worms on AIBU!!!! GrinGrin lol xxx

OICAFA- ((hug)) my DS1 had reflux and it was AWFUL. Feel your pain totally. Was told by (different!!) HV with DS1 I was "starving my child" ( direct quote I kid you not) by breastfeeding him as he had lost weight and wasnt gaining quick enough. So, we switched to formula and he got reflux... Nightmare!

Second DS came and I was very much like I am now. Stopped the HV visits to the house ASAP and just went to baby clinic when curious about his weight every 2-3 months usually).

This HV is so much nicer than the other "yoke" we had so I am NOT being anti-HV and have been really pleased with her help etc this time round - but was a bit Hmm today at her reaction to DS3's weight ...
