Cleaner

Our cleaner just started working for us.

She supposed to work 1-3pm on a Monday

When I got home last Monday at 2:30 she had already left. The housework had been done though.

Surely if she had finished early she should've left a note to say so??

I don't really want a confrontation with her.

This week DH has left a note with money saying that he might be back at 3pm. Hopefully she'll stay as long as is agreed??

May be two of them came so they did half the time?

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 06/08/2012 12:27

Are you paying her by the hour or for the job ie you have agreed a number of tasks?

WorraLiberty · 06/08/2012 12:27

Was the house clean?

Were all her jobs done to your satisfaction?

If so then YABU, what's the point in her hanging around doing nothing once she's finished?

Cleaning is not an exact science where you can time every single job to the minute.

pinkdelight · 06/08/2012 12:28

our cleaner never does exactly the hours we originally agreed upon. i don't mind at all as long as the work's done well. does it really matter? maybe she came at 12.30. she might take the note the wrong way, thinking she should def be out of the way by the time your DH comes home, so she's not under his feet, unless he specifically said he wanted to see her?

doblet · 06/08/2012 12:28

Maybe she started early?

cheekypickle · 06/08/2012 12:29

We are paying her by the hour rather than the amount of jobs done

Finishing half an hour early is perfectly reasonable if she'd done a proper job.

Can you time your own cleaning to the exact minute every time?

pinkdelight · 06/08/2012 12:32

I wouldn't imagine that you can pay for any less than 2 hours of cleaning. Surely that would be a minimum, unless you have a one-bed flat or summat.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 06/08/2012 12:32

She should have looked for extra jobs - windows/cobwebs/washing paintwork etc.

If you have a pay-by-hour agreement then you should get your hours, or pay less.

bigTillyMint · 06/08/2012 12:35

It is very difficult to work out exactly how many jobs you would expect to get done within a set time - it could be that she came early/worked quickly/you don't give her enough to do.

What is reasonable to expect a cleaner to get done in 3 hours?

DontmindifIdo · 06/08/2012 12:39

Hmm, she might have arrived early, I know our cleaner doesnt always get to our house at the same time - I have said that's fine as normally I'm at work on the days she cleans so dont mind when it's done as long as it's done when I get home.

How big is your house? Ours cleans for 3 hours for a 3 bed house. If she is just staying for 1.5 hours that does seem rather quick to do everything (and she should be doing that to a good standard). A friend's cleaner tends to finish her house in 2.5 hours and then spends 30 minutes ironing, could you suggest that if she finishes quicker?

If you are paying by the hour not the tasks, you should get that, or you should reduce the time allocated.

If she's bringing a colleague and they are both cleaning for 1 hour, while that's still getting what you paid for (and IME you get a better job done with 2 people working 1 hour than 1 person working 2 hours), you should be informed about who is in your house.
