To let my 2 DCs (11 & 8) go to the cinema alone

To watch Ice Age 4. I would drop them off and be waiting outside when its finished. Obviously, I know the 11 yo would be ok as he goes out alone now. Just wondered if others have done this.

I would be fine with it and have done it in the past! It's a nice way to give them a bit more independence! Go for it! And enjoy your time alone!

BlueEyedPeas · 06/08/2012 09:23

I wouldn't be alone, thats the reason they are going without me as I have 2 much younger DCs, too young for the cinema. I would love to see Ice Age 4 Smile. But thanks, I'm sure they'll be fine.

I'm thinking about doing this too (mine are 10 & 8), planning just to wait in the cinema coffee shop though. Think it will be fine - they'll know where I am if they need me and I'll see them if either needs to come out to go to the loo.

mynameis · 06/08/2012 09:31

Yanbu my older two dc did this from 12 & 10 and have never had any problems

I just made sure ds had a mobile as a back up

squeakytoy · 06/08/2012 09:33

YANBU. They will be fine.

NoComet · 06/08/2012 09:35

My 11 year old is happy to be left at home for that kind of time. I'm sure she'd take a younger friend to the cinema.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 06/08/2012 09:37

I would, they'll be fine and enjoy the freedom I should think.

Dprince · 06/08/2012 09:47

I am sure they will be fine. However are they likely to behave without adult supervision. I expect a bit of noise when going to a kids film, but wouldn't be impressed if they were really over the top and running about.
If they are sensible, I don't see the issue.

YANBU

BlueEyedPeas · 06/08/2012 11:40

Thanks for the replies. Well they're going tomorrow and are very excited.

Dprince, I know they won't start running around etc. They may get a bit giggly though. As long as they've got some sweets and choc they'll be fine.

I don't know, would depend on the child.

I wouldnt let my 7 year old do it, and I can't see her being ready to do it in a year's time either to be honest.

I allow my (very nearly) 11 year old to do it, she goes quite often with her friends and us mums usually drop them off, and sit and have a natter in the coffee shop in the foyer and wait for them to come out.

If your 8 year old is quite sensible, then YANBU

Julesnobrain · 06/08/2012 12:58

It depends if they are likely to have a fight and then disturb others. I don't allow my two (9 and 5) to go alone because they will argue over seats, drinks, popcorn, breathing etc............ But I have let them go with their cousins same age provided they don't sit next to each other ie sit in a block, but siblings seperated between cousins. The kids behave (happy other customers), feel very grown up and my sister and I have a natter and a coffee in the foyer. Works for us

BadRoly · 06/08/2012 12:59

I wouldn't but only because mine would fight with each other Blush I would let either go with a same aged friend though Smile
