Sorry another income type question

AIBU to think £900 a month is a pretty good diposable income - its the amount we will have remaining going forward after mortgage, bills and food. So is basically to cover social stuff, general spending, clothes and savings etc. DH thinks this is a pretty minimal amount and I am thinking he needs to get in the real world a bit. Sorry I know this kind of thread pops up a lot but I need to convince him.

What is he proposing to do if he thinks it is minimal?

AllDirections · 05/08/2012 21:48

YANBU, I think there are a lot of people who would love to have that amount of spare cash every month

frootshoots · 05/08/2012 21:48

Nearly £1000 per month to spend on anything you wish, without having to worry about bills/food?

You're in a very fortunate position. Your DH should appreciate it a lot more than he does.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 05/08/2012 21:49

Send him my way, we're lucky to have one tenth of what you have at the end of each month.

fivegomadindorset · 05/08/2012 21:49

Yep, he needs to get in the real world.

ShutTheFrontDoor · 05/08/2012 21:51

Yabvvvvu to use the term going forward. Take those two words out and it makes just as much sense.

pippee · 05/08/2012 21:54

Thanks stfd I usually hate the use of unecessary words in sentences - its Sunday night!

£900/month disposable income is £900/month more than we have. You are very fortunate.

pippee · 05/08/2012 22:11

I think he just wants to have a bit more to save but doesn't everyone!

OP posts:
Tancub · 05/08/2012 22:11

Wow. Reality check required.

Hassled · 05/08/2012 22:11

It's a hell of a lot of disposable income by anyone's standards, I'd have said.

Is he managing to overspend it, or something?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 05/08/2012 22:11

Yes, that sounds generous to me. Is he thinking this because he used to have more when he was young and single, or because you have rich mates, or what? Working that out might help him to get some perspective.

When now-DH and I first got together, we had just over 1,200 pounds per month for rent, bills, food etc. That's only 300 more than you have as disposable. We don't have children so obviously not quite the same, but we lived off that and loans for a year, so having 900 disposable income sounds quite nice to me.

Yama · 05/08/2012 22:14

If I had £900 disposable income I would save at least £500 of it.

Petsinmyolympicpudenda · 05/08/2012 22:14

Erm we are lucky To have about £50- 80 month left over.sometimes we have nothing. And most of the people I know have about the same You're dh needs a reality check

pippee · 05/08/2012 22:14

I think it is probably a comparison with rich friends to be honest

OP posts:
noelstudios · 05/08/2012 22:16

Yes, reality check required. Sounds a bit brat-like to be peeved at only having just under a grand a month to do with as you please.....

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 05/08/2012 22:16

YANBU. Your DH is being unrealistic. I, along with many others, would love to be able to enjoy that amount of money to burn.

noelstudios · 05/08/2012 22:17

We have quite a few rich friends, but I just think their lives are somewhat lacking because they never experience the joy of Lidl.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 05/08/2012 22:17

Well, in that case, pippee, tell him to lots of people he is the rich friend!

You two must be pretty high on a centile chart of earnings, I'd think.

LST · 05/08/2012 22:17

Well I think my 'disposable' income this month is about £3 (and we owe that to the bank)

devonsmummy · 05/08/2012 22:20

Your monthly disposable income is the same as our ANNUAL disposable incomeEnvy

pippee · 05/08/2012 22:21

What is high on the centile chart of earnings? I wouldn't say we are really high at combined income of £51k. Fairly good household income I know but not very high individual incomes as such.
