To be planning an extreme weather kit?

I currently have four inches of hailstones in my garden, from one hour of storm. My house flooded in the Geordiepocolypse (I invented that word to portray the ridiculous flash storm we had recently). On Saturday we were sunbathing, and now the paddling pool is full of hail. This winter wasn't bad, but the previous two have seen snow a metre high. THE WEATHER IS ALL WRONG and it is scary.

So. Would it be ridiculous to create an extreme weather survival kit? What do I need in it? We are two adults, a 5yo and a 2yo, in a rented two storey terraced house in the north east. We are pretty poor, but I think we need something.

I'm sure you are not alone in having an emergency kit.

Camping stove and gas
Small saucepan
Bottled water
Tins of beans/soup
Long life milk
Biscuits/snacks

Snow shovel

Warm clothing
Blankets/sleeping bags/duvets
Torch + spare batteries

Pack of cards / board games ( to keep kids occupied if no electricity)

Battery operated radio
Pet food?
Grit/ salt
Paracetamol, ibuprofen rehydration stuff.
Know where your insurance doc are.

Agree with Invicta's list, but also add:

Matches / lighter
waterproofs
wellies

sandbags to reduce water coming in
