To move my Guinea Pigs outdoors?

We have 3 piggies - had them for 18months. They are well loved, well cared for family pets and be purchased a lovely shed for them to live in in their hutch ...only this past 2 months other things have moved into the shed.

Now I am not a wuss but I am not hugely keen on 8 legged beasts but I could cope with the one huge one under the lawn mower and the big garden variety one in the window - but now we have 3 more HUGE ones under the hutch

I have asked my ex to shift them but he took one look and said 'NO WAY'

now I clean the pigs twice a week but it's getting hairy doing it - I have to psych myself up and it hate being in the shed

so I am thinking of buying a newer hutch - freecycling the shed and putting them on the concrete where the shed once lived.

Am I being cruel? will they be okay

Do any of you have any other tips for spiders :( a part from Man the fuck up - I know I should but trust me - being near to them is a bloody miracle l of epic proportions as it is - 2 or 3 years ago I wouldn't have been brave enough to open the door.

alphabite I'm with you, I never even knew Guinea pigs were indoor pets, mine are 4 & 5 they bussle around the runs and hutchs all day long, we have an amazing "runaround" system - www.runaround.co.uk/

With two rabbits as well, they all have linked hutches to a run they have tunnels and all sorts they stay out all day and all night and are tough little girls.

They just look so happy out all day all weathers, we have a covered area for shade and rain and they keep busy with toys, they groom the rabbits too, and they squeak at my two dogs.

They have been out all winters, just make sure they have hay, loads of bedding and one cold year we moved them into the shelter of the greenhouse during the snow.

Great animals and super cute!

gordy if you look over on Super Furry Animals there are loads of Guinea-Pig Indoor/Outdoor living.
Start this thread in SFA and you'll get more GP people advice too. Grin

My boars are indooor/outdoor boys.
They live in my DC old wooden playhouse, on a raised wooden plinth;one window can be removed and the space is lined with tough fencing mesh and fine fly mesd.
They have a wooden/screen door to fit inside when the wooden door is open.

I decided against the 'hutch in a shed' option and just let them have the entire shed. It's got a wooden hay box inside, a ramp, lots of boxes and floor space . (I measured it last week it's 5'7" x 5'5")
We have an outdoor run for nice days.
In winter they live in the dining room at night and their Pighouse by day (with extra heating and loads of hay)

I like most animals, (including spiders) but I supppose I feel the same way about moths as you do about spiders.
If push came to shove, a long handled soft broom to 'sweep' them out. Or even a vacuum cleaner with a long hose .

I think the GPs would rather deal with spiders than cats TBH.

And you'd need a fair sized cage for 3 GPs. There's website that has a guide. I'll just find it.

Minimum 10.5 square feet
Preferably 13 square feet
for 3 GPs.

My 2 boars (adult) have an indoor cage 4'x2' just for winter nights and they get very meh. We fill it with hay for them to eat/sleep in.
They wouldn't be happy in it 24/7 though.

Ours live outside always unless it's 2feet of snow, when they go I. The garage. They get out in a run in the garden as much as poss. They're a v healthy 4 yo.
