To be annoyed with John Lewis/Waitrose

so this is why
I buy something on sale it's broken I go back and get a replacement hassle free, then I see it is 25% cheaper elsewhere.

By now I'm feeling slightly cross with them 2 trips to get something with no car only to find it cheaper elsewhere (when I had a lift, it's big, I have small kids and my pushchair is broken you get the picture)

So after my experience a couple of years ago when they basically had something cheaper in another branch of their own shop and refused to price match, I decide to try them out.

So I go back third trip! Only to be told they will price match but take down details and then ring shop then ring me.
Sure enough i get a call yes it is cheaper go back and get refund so i make another trip, lady serving me fusses and fusses about the paperwork not being filled in correctly, snearily says 'oh dont worry we'll refund you your £10' I point out it is 12 she fusses about paperwork and then puts 10 pounds on my card.

My Mother picks up a few bits from Waitrose (and we all know how much that costs lol). Raspberries and pitta bread both mouldy within 24 hours and still in date.

All this in about 8 days, they are driving me crazy, 4 trips still not got it right and the snooty attitude of the shop assistant, out here in the real world 10 pounds really matter to some people.

Anyway the thing is thought id tell you all finally they price match, the remaining items in the shop have been reduced in price to match but it is a
B)£&(y awful experience for whoever points it out to them but the thing is she hadn't taken down enough detail of what I actually bought to know what to compare it with so it needn't have taken 4 trips anyway.

Grrrrrr rant over

So AIBU to expect them to price match 10 pounds, is that really throwaway money for everyone?

YANBU, I think standards have slipped at John Lewis lately. I placed an order online a few weeks ago, called yesterday as it hadn't arrived, to be told that it's been left in my porch. I don't even have a porch, so they checked again and said it hadn't even been despatched!

I've never had a problem but then I do spend a fortune with them online.
Yodel did leave a new iPad on the hedge when I wasn't in, which they were not pleased to hear about, but it wasn't taken.

It doesn't matter how much you spend with them, the service should be consistent.

I do spend a lot with John Lewis, both online and in-store, as I rack up points with my partnership card, but have noticed a drop in the level of service. Don't get me wrong, it's always put right, but shouldn't go wrong in the first place!

That said, they are still better than most stores, and did refund me for my pushchair that was 6 months old as it was difficult to collapse! I hadn't complained, I was buying an iCandy instore & the assistant asked what was wrong with my current one (JL own brand travel system) & promptly processed a full refund!

Hijack alert - Out of interest, how doesanyone know how the JL/Waitrose credit card works in terms of points/money back etc?

I have a Santander credit card which earns 1 per cent on supermarket purchases, 2 per cent on dept stores and 3 per cent on petrol. It costs £24 a year, so £2 a month. So far am earning approx. £4 a month on it so not exactly earth shattering. Thanks.

PeazlyPops · 04/08/2012 13:26

lashings we get 1 point for every £1 spent at JL/Waitrose and 1 point for every £2 spent anywhere else. Not much, but does mount up, especially as we use it for all our spending, and just pay it off in full each month.

PeazlyPops · 04/08/2012 13:27

Posted too soon!

There's no fee (except interest, obviously, if you don't pay it off in full) and they sometimes post little rewards out. We got a booklet of vouchers for their eatery, two hot drinks and two cakes, every month until December.
