to be concerned about DD16s mucocele operation? Any dentists or oral docs around?

DD16 has had a large lump in her mouth, inside her lower lip, for about 3 years. Sometimes she bites it and liquid will come out and it will become smaller for a while, until it fills up with gunk again.

Her dentist referred her to the hospital last week. Nice doc said it was a mucocele and she needed an op under local anaesetic to remove it. She wants it gone, but I'm worried if something might go wrong - not sure what as nice doc said it was a simple op and nothing much could go wrong Hmm

Anyone had one of these or work in this field?

Firstly please remember this is the internet when asking for professional people to reply...you will have no idea who is really who.

Secondly, and I can't believe I'm going to say this Blush ......

My dog had the same thing a few years ago and it was indeed a very simple and quick operation for what it's worth.

I think as in any minor procedure you'll be worrying about the anaesthetic

Is it local or general?

Its local Worral

I assume your DD is 16 rather than you have 16 daughters! Grin

Yes, very straightforward op, please don't worry! Xx

You have sixteen daughters? is confused

WorraLiberty · 04/08/2012 00:46

I know....of all the replies...a fucking dog - sorry! Blush Grin

But seriously, with a local I'm sure she'll be absolutely fine.

Just concentrate on amusing your 15 other daughters while she has the op....Grin

She will be fine. It's under local and will be over before you (or she) knows it. Just tell her to be careful afterwards while her lip is numb as I managed to bite mine without realising and boy was it painful when it wore off!

Worst that will happen is that her lip will swell up and she'll be on soup through a straw for a day or two. But medically, absolutely fine :)

Not quite the same but my son had a brace fitted and had to have an operation on his gum to fit a bar so his brace could attach to it. It was a simple and quick operation, he was knocked out with a local and was in the operating room and recovery for 2 hours so it was really quick.

He was fine, we went home a couple of hours after he came round and although his mouth was sore for a couple of days he came through it!
