www.downsdesigns.com/about.php

I mean don't get me wrong it is nice to help individuals with downs syndrome with finding clothes that fit them but the name for me is a bit Hmm .

If you read the about me they say that they call their clothes "down sizing" ..... Maybe I am being a bit of a pearl clutcher but just find it a bit offensive.

Not sure I find it offensive buy it does seem quite a daft idea to me

WorraLiberty · 03/08/2012 21:58

I've often heard parents of children with DS describing having a 'Downs child' or a 'child with Downs'.

So no I don't find it offensive

FeakAndWeeble · 03/08/2012 21:59

My aunt has Downs. We've always said just that: Downs. It's not a rude word, or an insult. It's the name of a condition. So no, not offensive to me.

travailtotravel · 03/08/2012 22:01

That is just pointless though - people who have Down's don't have eight arms and legs. Normal clothes tend to do the job.

WorraLiberty · 03/08/2012 22:02

And actually it may help in an ebay/internet search if that's the name they're using.

Pumpster · 03/08/2012 22:02

I'm not sure but the jeans sound comfy!!

AgentZigzag · 03/08/2012 22:02

If there's a need for the clothes I suppose the buyers are the best people to decide whether they find it offensive or not.

Reminds me of this scrumptious baby who's been in the news this week for modelling a swimsuit.

NagooingForGold · 03/08/2012 22:09

on whose behalf are you offended?

tazzle22 · 03/08/2012 22:17

its not a daft idea olimpia Wink... some people with downs syndrome do find it more difficult to get clothes and shoes to fit from high street retailers because of different ratios of arm / leg length to body.

imo Its kinda like women who are taller being catered for by "long, tall sally" I think it was... or the larger man being catered for by "jackamo" or summat like that.

Here the name lets people know quickly who the products cater for .... like the firm near me . *disableaids

Since the models and others involved with the company do have downs then I take it they are not "insulted" / offended... after all downs is just the name of a condition.

I think it's a brilliant idea and great name for web searches etc
