To find people tight bastards?

We went to a local event today, lots if stalls/events and things to do. Free to attend and most of the activities free or nominal charge.

Whilst there I booked in for an Indian head massage - it was lovely, and I had a 20 minute treatment. There was no charge but a collection tin for a local cancer charity. When I'd had my very nice massage I threw a few quid in the tin, actually feeling guilty that it wasn't a 'banknote' level donation. The chap fell over himself thanking me and told me I was the first person that day to donate. The tin was indeed empty bar my few quid. This was at 3pm and I was maybe the tenth or eleventh person on the booking sheet.

Not even 50p from a one of them. What a bunch of tightfisted flangeweasels!

Tightwads indeed.

It is a shame, but the bloke should have been a bit more savvy and charged a small fee to ensure some kind of income. People can be very tight, I agree.

Lottapianos · 03/08/2012 17:47

Some people want everything for nothing. I agree with you - tight gits.

squoosh · 03/08/2012 17:47

It makes me cringe to think that people can be so miserly.

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 03/08/2012 17:49

That's really poor form.

I am all for a bargain, but taking a service and not giving anything in return is totally off.

angeltattoo · 03/08/2012 18:13

My friend was saying that at a charity coffee morning at her work recently, people were putting 50p in for AMAZING cakes etc. FOR CHARITY!!!!!

I hate tight people (not the same as not being able to afford it BTW!)

CockyPants · 03/08/2012 18:15

How wankbadgery not to donate at a charity event.

Foshizzle · 03/08/2012 18:23

YANBU. That would enrage me too.

We went to a local farm last year that was technically free entry but requested donations of £3. They saw it (their toddler was pointing to it) but just sauntered past. They are very well off. It was disappointing to watch. The farm has since started charging for entry - a nominal amount but they even complained about that!

I was manning the cloak room at an event a few years ago. There was a sign explaining that all the staff were volunteers and the event was totally free but if anyone wanted to leave a tip they could do so.

I expected most people to just not give anything, as it wasn't for charity, and that was fine I was doing it to help out.

The tip box was actually full by the end of the night.

When it came to opening it though, we found that about half of it was money, and the other half was a collection of junk: foreign coins, buttons, out of date currency, safety pins, etc.

Not giving is fine. Giving junk is insulting.

yanbu

DontmindifIdo · 03/08/2012 18:30

Well there's a lesson for him, people rarely value something that is free. Make even a small charge, and the same people would have the massage and pay it happily thinking it was cheaper than the same service at their local spa...
