To be disproportionately enraged by people who sit in the car for ages with the engine idling

It's annoying, noisy, stinks the place up and is helping the planet go to shit.

I know there are worse eco-crimes out there, but there can't be many quite so pointless, easily avoidable and utterly self-defeating.

Worst of all, it's not a recognised bit of fuckwittery like littering or dog fouling, so I can't tap on the window and scream at the bastards or I will look like crazy cat lady.

Hate engines running whilst parked. Hate it. YANBU.

"If someone is getting out of the car just to drop off recycling then it woudo probably wast more petrol to start the engine off again when you coud just leave it ticking over."

I don't buy that. The guy was taking a good 10 minutes to throw out his bottles and tins.

Never particularly worried about it - Sometimes I turn my engine off, sometimes I don't and TBH since I've only owned a car less than 50% of my driving life, and generally have used public transport or walked I feel fine about my environmental impact the few times I do it.

Sorry guys, but if you live next to a road, you deal with traffic noise - just like when I lived next to a firestation I learned to deal with 2am sirens under my window (not in the UK - I don't think they use sirens at night here unless they have to), and when I lived next to the trainline I was actually grateful for the 6:30am heavy freight shaking the bed to wake me up.

OTOH plenty of silly things wind me up, so go right on and be angry :)

I'm in my car right now, it's a very old turbo diesel 4X4 (all I can afford on benefits) and the A/C needs the engine on to work, I'm in a P&C space while my partner takes the children round ALDI to get food for the goat, sorry got to go somebody is banging on the window....

I am partly deaf. The noise of passing traffic does not bother me. However, the noise of an idling engine ticking over is different. The lower revs have a lower frequency sound that is extremely audible to me, as most of my hearing loss is the high frequency stuff.

Please, switch off your engines.
