To ask how the olympics has affected those in London?

As the title suggests really! There was a lot of worry and speculation from those who live and/or commute in London about the impact the games would have. Has it been as bad as thought or a bit like the millenium bug and came to nothing?

My friend who lives in London has said her commute to work has been the best ever! She said there's no one on the roads.

TandB · 02/08/2012 12:39

I was up just before the games began and I had the clearest ever run across London and down the M4.

JumpingThroughHoops · 02/08/2012 12:40

First day was horrendous, but every man and his dog seems to be working from home now, so the roads are empty.

eurochick · 02/08/2012 12:40

It's quieter than usual. In fact other than a Games maker almost making me miss a train by running by getting in my way when I was running across the station, I've had no disruption at all! And my route into work involves one of the expected blackspot stations.

MrsDonaldDraper · 02/08/2012 12:41

My trains are slightly less busy on the way in. On the way home they are running a little late as they are coming into Waterloo late due to the crowds at the rowing/wimbledon/cycling, but other than that, fine!

dinkystinky · 02/08/2012 12:45

Roads alot quieter, tubes more frequent, loads of brilliant pop up bars and cultural olympiad stuff going on for the whole family. I 'm loving it!

Windsock · 02/08/2012 12:45

Regarding title. Did you REALLY THINK this would be seen as unreasonable ??

CinnamonSal · 02/08/2012 12:46

good news all round then!

CinnamonSal · 02/08/2012 12:48

well windsock it may have been a stupid question as it has been discussed extensively elsewhere and i may have missed it. Sorry about that!

Lots better than expected. Very slight delays on way home on Tuesday (maybe 5mins). Great atmosphere though.

Mrbojangles1 · 02/08/2012 12:49

Apart from a few shopkeepers trying it on with their prices its been fine really enjoying seeing all the games makers about and really looking forward to going in september to see the paras

Midgetm · 02/08/2012 12:51

It's been bloody marvelous. Roads quieter, trains running on time, lovely friendly atmosphere. Wish it would go on for ever.

akaemmafrost · 02/08/2012 12:53

Roads are empty. It's brilliant. At the weekend it was like being in a ghost town. I went to Baker Street on Sunday and as the tube went if further it got more crowded especially at Paddington but where I live is pretty much unaffected. There is NO rush hour atm. Loving it.

drjohnsonscat · 02/08/2012 12:58

It's good. Not much traffic at all. Much clearer than usual. Only prob we are having is with deliveries arriving on our street after 11pm because all the businesses had been told to do this. So no traffic in the day because it's all on my street at night!

But all fine and it's nice to see the town looking good and there are lots of Olympic events round my way so lots of officials and visitors. It's nice to see everyone having fun and appreciating our city. Hampton Court looked spectacular as the backdrop for the medals yesterday [proud]

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 02/08/2012 12:59

A happy commuter here too, despite the fact I come in from a games venue. Events don't start until after the normal rush hour so no problems on the trains, and I've had no trouble getting home either. Trains are quieter than usual though I would expect them to be anyway at this time of year. I'm thoroughly enjoying working in London through the Games, in fact - great atmosphere and everyone seems really cheerful!

LulaPalooza · 02/08/2012 13:04

Agree, it's much quieter than anticipated. I think it might get a bit more hectic once the athletics starts tomorrow but so far, so good. I am loving the atmosphere in London at the moment.

MaisyMooCow · 02/08/2012 13:05

My London friend also said the atmosphere is amazing and she's feeling so proud. I'm quite envious but still feeling the love myself...via the tv set!!!

FelicitywasSarca · 02/08/2012 13:08

Dont live in London but visit regulalry and it's been great.

Only time I ran into problems was when I stupidly was going to visit somewhere close to an Olympic venue and instead of going the normal way I went the way the Olympic posters suggest....

Yeh, what would have been 30 mins on the tube, turned into well over an hour including a pointlessly long walk betweens stations...

Lesson learned, it's not too busy to use the normal routes, and I did on the way back!

minipie · 02/08/2012 13:23

It's really really quiet. I am trying to think of places I should go and things I should do whilst we have London to ourselves! Like restaurants that are always booked up.

KellyElly · 02/08/2012 13:24

Not at all. I live three stops from Stratford and it been the best week of tube journeys EVER!

ajandjjmum · 02/08/2012 13:26

So much for all the whinging that went on in anticipation of the inconvenience!

KellyElly · 02/08/2012 13:27

Windsock oh come on, half the posts on her are not asking if they are unreasonable or not. This section just gets the most traffic. Don't be miserable :)

MurderOfProse · 02/08/2012 13:29

My husband complained that somebody stuck their elbows in his ribs yesterday morning and he forgot his hat. He admits it's probably not related to the Olympics.. but that is all he has to complain about this week as regards commuting!

MrGin · 02/08/2012 13:30

My early drive to work yesterday was fab, not another car about, beautiful sunny morning.

Then I realized I was driving on the cycling time trial route.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/08/2012 13:30

Very, very quiet when I travelled round London yesterday, the actual olympic stuff has been incredibly well organised.

It's so good I have just last minute booked tickets for the theatre tonight, knowing that there is plenty of time and no hassle to get there Smile
